Markings for my WLA

Post by ccandgc » Tue Jul 03, 2007 1:04 pm

I have a copy of AR 850-5 on WW2 vehicle markings....and some other books, but I just cant seem to figure and find out enough to make up my set of markings.....hope you guys can help!

The bike already had 2nd ID logo on it, and I kinda like it so I decided to keep it. What I cant seem to find out is the apprpriate markings for it regarding if it should be a cav or mp unit....Id like it to be a higher up vehicle too.

I have done a little creative math to figure out approximately what my Army reg. number should be- 672404

Any info you can provide would be very greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Chad

haven't gone through it in detail, might I think it might be the official website for 2-AD. I have the site for the 3-AD too if you're interested

Duh!!! I'm an idiot. Should have looked more closely. Sorry, I gave you the links for the AD!!! Friends don't let friends drink and post. Try this one:

Sorry about the misread before. Hope these help a little more.

thatnks for the links, great reading!
It never fails....I think I have it down, then I start reading and looking at new pages, and everything gets screwed up! Sheesh....its funny how things with published info can get so screwed up and contradict itself :? maybe I wont do any markings! Just stars!

have you seen this one chad? (credit Johan, since he told me about this site originally)

http://www.lonesentry.com/panzer/jeep-markings.html

using this I would say you's want

2-P
HQ-2

with 2 = 2nd Infantry Division
P = Military Police
HQ = headquarters company
2 = vehicle #2 (based off what you had written before)

Brian
Brian and Chad...

2-X
P-2

would be correct for a 2ID MP bike..., assuming they had them...

2-X
HQ-25

would be correct for a messenger bike attached to Divisional HQ...

oops! Thanks Johan. I guess I'm misreading the manual too! It's that 2nd catagory that I think I'm getting myself confused with.
