Member “ rockyowen” put me in contact with a guy who got me for $185. Should have known better…Rocky’s message should have told me all I needed to know. I’m an idiot for falling for it but it was legit as heck..
Scammed by email bvcreekfarm@gmail.com

Also unsolicited email “got your email from a friend” theodorelasan@gmail.com

Both of these guys provided awesome and different pics of exactly what I wanted but 1 wanted Zelle or venmo and one said PayPal f&f.

Both of them seem to have disappeared

Here's another one for you. I am ashamed to admit that I was taken in so easily.

I received an unsolicited PM from member jackowa with a lead on a radio. He provided the email address for M Cappello, spy3der@outlook.com. I contacted M Capello who provided numerous photos and asked a reasonable price. I bit, hook line and sinker. I paid by Zelle to his 'wife' at cindystennis7@gmail.com and still wait. :-(
That’s the exact way they got me. I’m an effing dummy

Unless you talk to somebody an .outlook, .Gmail, or .yahoo email address is suspect. Even after talking it's still suspect.

Most of this stuff can be stopped, deal on here in public, you can see the sellers join date and amount of participation on this site, if you get an email tell them to contact you on here and delete the email.

and for the sellers, if buyer pays payal with a credit card they have 90 days to cancel or say their card was stolen or what not, you will loose out. paypal will take the money back till dispute is closed. if they say item was not as described, buyers remorse maybe, paypal will take the money back and you also pay shipping to get the product back. kinda tough if shipping overseas with $150 post 1 way. So watch who you sell to. usps insurance for overseas, well they have 30 days to figure it out, and then most likely after hours on the phone you will never hear back from them.

I just deleted a new member Andrea032. While doing my morning moderator stuff, this member had a couple of new posts to approve. One seemed sketchy to me (offering to sell a tool to a UK member). Andrea032 claimed to be retired military seeking parts. The email address in this members contact info tingled my spidey senses. A quick Google search showed the email address as a known scammer. Be vigilant guys.

The scammers are getting better with their requests to join. I was a bit hesitant a few days ago when I approved him. His statement about riding on his 42 MB gave me pause. I just deleted him.

I think I posted this suggestion before but another forum won't allow new members to post classifieds or contact members until they have 10 posts. This really helps weed them out by forcing them to participate in the forum before they can start scamming.

Thank you. Unfortunately it hasn't been the new members as much as there are members that have been here as long as four years that are letting nonmembers know someone is looking for a specific part. They in turn send the member an email attempting to scam them. When we catch the member facilitating the scam they are immediately removed and banned. We try but there simply is no way to tell who these scum are.

As it is now, new members cannot access established member's profiles to gain email addresses or PM. I'm not sure how many posts are required but I'd like it increased to 10 or 20.

The best I can do is continue to warn members not to contact sellers outside the forum unless you personally know the person and NEVER SEND UNSECURED FUNDS like PayPal Friends and Family or any funds app that will not gaurantee protection from fraud.

I'm fairly new to the G503 forum. Feeling pretty dumb that I got conned by a scammer and used my wife's Venmo to send $ to a guy who said he had a WWII siren - he even sent me pics. When I questioned him where he got my contact info from, he said off the G503 forum from his friend Andreashubbert referred him ((John Macoy - scammers name) He gave me his "friends" Venmo account: @glenn-Bransford.

When he asked me for more $ after the venmo payment went through, I knew I got scammed. I won't be buying anything from anyone where I can't meet the person in person!

I appreciate the forum and like to connect with the legit members.

G503 member Fio67 ( Jody Eckman ) in Hackensack MN "sold" me an Indy Ord M1A1 Thompson BFONG on July 8. I sent full payment ( BFONG + shipping ) right away and he acknowkedged that he received it.... but still hasn't shipped it.

I called, emailed, and PM'ed here on G503 several times and the time he responded, he said he spent all of the money and didn't have enough to ship it, so I should send him more money. I told him that I already paid for that and I wanted a tracking number by Aug 4 ..... nothing. I tried calling tonight and he either hangs up or lets it ring.

I have filed a report with the Cass County MN Sheriff and will follow up with the FTC. If this guy tries to "sell" you anything, run!
