Toeboard Gusset Number Question

Post by Sdkfz250 » Mon May 30, 2016 11:01 am

Hi,

I found the following number on the left toeboard gusset.

Image

The gusset is on a 1944 Willys MB.

From what I have seen so far the number looks different. Is this an original WW2 tub? The seller claims that this is original.

Can somebody help?

Many thanks

Michael

Looks like a reproduction body number to me.

Can you post the complete number as the photo is unclear? Also, if it's MD Juan produced, the first character represents the month and the second two characters represent the year of manufacture.

Hi,

Many thanks for your help. As far I can read it, the number is: 119823. The last two digits I can't read.

What do you think. Is this really a repro tub?

You should post more pictures so an honest assessment can be made.

Which kind of photos would help? Photos of the tub? I have inspected the Jeep and made a view photos.

Any exterior photos? The offset transmission cover plate and boot rings suggest reproduction.

Nothing else? These parts are easy to exchange.

Can someone tell me a link to a web site showing the differences of a MD Juan body and an original MB body? For me it is important to know whether the tub is repro or original. If it's repro the price is definately too high.

Many thanks

Michael

Does the body have side curtain snaps? Also, is there a cutout on the top dashboard seam? Lack of the cutout is representative of older reproduction body tubs. As far as the side curtain snaps is concerned, many people omit the snaps on reproduction tubs.

Hello
I am no specialist but the number (too long), the character set and the way it is on the gusset (should be one character next to another and not one on top of another) is definitely not good.
I have never seen this.
I have never seen a repro tub neither. I did not know they had numbers.
Why would anybody take the time to put the wrong number in the wrong way on an original tub even if the toe gusset would have been replaced?.
The pictures show a nice tub. Much nicer that then any 1944 tub I have ever seen. (I own 5 tubs 1944-1945 and they all are in much worse condition).
I do not believe it is original but a MD Juan Tub owner would be able to confirm whether this number is MD Juan...

Personally, I believe the body is a pre 2000's tub by the serial number font and arrangement. I have seen some old Genmac tubs with similar serial numbers. Genmac is an old MD Juan trade name.
