Not an insult. I was just trying to gather info about your past to determine what it was that made you so dependent on the heavy doses of self esteem improvement you are taking today.

The single action fuel pumps require no spacers, the CJ Series with the vacuum boosters require the 647669 0.130 spacer, and the M-38/M-38A1 Jeep requires the thicker 800361 0.566 Spacer. If any of the Jeeps that normally require the spoacer have the single action MB/CJ-2A Fuel Pump installed for some reason, no spacer is required.
The reason for the spacers is due to the configuration of the vacuum pumps and the limited space at the fuel pump location.

Thanks Ben! I have the CJ fuel pump with the vacuum booster on it. I am waiting on a rebuild kit to arrive so I can rebuild my M38A1 fuel pump. Any recomendations on building new vent lines? All of the venting lines on my M38A1 were removed by the previous owner, is the length of each line listed in the parts manual? I have a parts manual, just thought I would ask first before I start searching. Thanks for your help and knowledge.

Those lines are tricky and difficult to duplicate. Best to contact the popular Jeep Parts suppliers to see if they stock any repros. The originals were a tight fit. Also invest in some flare nut and brass fitting tools such as Snap-On offers as the brass elbows used on the pumps are oddball wrench size and crush easily.

I have a related question. Forgive the potential hijack. I have a civilian block with the military fule/vacuum pump. I also have the military spacer. It appears to work fine but it leaks oil but only after running, never while in operation. Is the spacer to blame?

Not if the two mounting gaskets are doing their job. I would much rather suspect that the vacuum portion has a problem.

Ben,

I am working on a M38A1 and had the fuel pump issues just discussed. I tried to take different combinations of civilian and military pumps and spacers and come up with a good working 2 stage pump. Through out this ordeal I also discovered that the engine front mounting plates are different. Seems the civilian had the "cut-out" or fuel pump notch at a different location than the military. Are there different numbers for the civilian vs. military mount plate?

Thanks,
BRAD

You may be right about the configuration of the Civilian plate vs the M-Series one at the location of the pump. Although both had a vacuum booster type pump, the shape of the pumps are different and the relieved areas adjacent the pumps are a bit different for each pump.

Brad i had the same problem and i think that contributed to my leaking pump area probem. Itook a grinder to that area of the plate. If you do the same make sure you cover the hole in the block so shavings do not get thrown in there. BTW i have found it easier to just take the fender off when working on the pump and that general area.

Thanks all that have contributed to this thread.

Tim,
Is this the spacer your looking for? I found this spacer in my shop today while looking for something else.
Thanks,
