My father just purchased a 41 Plymouth special deluxe at an estate auction. it does not run but is 100% complete albeit rough shape. what is the approximate cost for restoring such a vehicle? are parts easily availible? My Grandfather(my dads father) drove these cars as staff cars in world war two, and owned one when he left the military, so we are torn between which way to restore it if we do keep it. Thanks for all the help!

Congrats on your "new" car. The biggest cost is hiring someone else to do the work. Body shops and rebuilt engines are expensive.

If you want to do most of it yourself, you can find almost anything you need online....something like e-bay or there are several outfits that deal in replacement parts. Then there are guys on this forum who have spare parts...I have several myself. I have found everything I needed or wanted using these sources. If you want I could send you website and e-mail

It would certainly be cheaper if you did it as an Army staff car as most everything outside is painted OD. You wouldn't have to worry about rechroming bumpers, etc. The paint can be cheaper depending on how you do it. Also you might choose to give it a more "lived through the war" look by not fixing every little ding and the interior doesn't have to be as nice as a civilian restoration.

My car is up to doing upholestry and painting the markings. There are a couple of minor mechanical parts I need but nothing major. I rebuilt the engine, brakes, converted to 12V negative ground with an alternator, electronic ignition, electric fan, and more. I'm up to about $3000.
