suggestions for RC aircraft V birds

Post by philipgslattery » Thu Oct 14, 2010 8:46 pm

Hi Guys,
I have a couple of acres of vineyard and birds can be a problem. I don't wish to apply netting.

I was wondering about having a RC aircraft buzz them (and possibly hit them ) to deter them from further incursions.
I don't know about such matters , but when I look on ebay I see that there many types of models. I need something that is fairly solid with a radio range of 500 + yards. Are battery powered aircraft OK or do I need a fuel driven engine?

Any suggestions / advice.( greenies need not reply)

Thanks

Philip

That would be an expensive and possibly illegal endeavor. R/C aircraft are expensive and would probably not last more than one bird strike each. The laws in your state may prohibit such activity.

TopKick Thanks for the advice. Out of interest do you know if battery powered RC aircraft have much of an endurance?
Thanks

A fellow with an apple orchard up the road from us uses a propane powered cannon to scare off the birds. Seems to be on some sort of timer. Have been to several small airports that use these, too.

Philip,
A battery powered one would probably be more fragile.
