Re: Deep Mud question for Willys MB
Are you sure that your late Willys is late enough to have the deep mud exhaust? Willys didn't start that modification until December 44, Maybe that is why you don't have the holes in your chassis.

Re: Deep Mud question for Willys MB
Hi,
Yes i'm sure. The chassis number = 456307 so the d.o.d. should be 7-30-45. That's a late production number
I think that the reason the holes aren't there is because the jeep was recondioned in France at La Maltournee in 1956.
So they changed chassis or maybe even a partial chassis, but unfortunatly the holes aren't there.
Here is the chassis :
Regards,
Glenn

Glenn
Taken from the original holes off my MB the measurements are:
Rear Pintle support Brace hole
7 1/4" from where the angle starts from the pintle hook support at the rear
1 1/2" from bottom of brace to center of hole
Center cross member hole
8 1/2" from inside edge of frame to center of hole. (Measurement was taken by running tape measure along the contour of the cross member from where the support plate is welded to the center of the hole)
Hope this helps!

Re: Deep Mud question for Willys MB
I think that little bracket is only on the Ford deep mud setup. The Willys frame uses the crossmember at the rear shock location to pick up this clamping point.

Re: Deep Mud question for Willys MB
That picture is definitively a GPW chassis.
Rear frame brace is GPW type, No extra MB crossmember, rear shock towers, MG mount is also GPW square type.

In this Army Motors picture, it is an MB frame and you see that bracket.

Very sorry for the confusion. I just went an took some pictures of an MB across town for verification. Previous picture was incorrect. Here is the correct picture placement that does not show the GPW bracket.

Re: Deep Mud question for Willys MB
Glenn,
That dimension on my 44 Willys is 4.5 inches between the gun support flange and the hole location (see photo).

Re: Deep Mud question for Willys MB
thovis, i don't mean to correct you or anything, but just kindly point out to anyone seeing the picture above, that the SNL G-503 doesn't call for a rubber insulator in this location, as the photograph shows. Only one is needed on the Deep Mud Exhaust setup, and that is the one hanging from the angled bracket on the transmission crossmember...thovis wrote:Very sorry for the confusion. Matters are different on the side exhaust, it has two rubber insulators, both on the muffler. Guess they didn't think the muffler needed them on the Deep Mud Exhaust...
