Thanks David....

Perhaps I can find a conversion for RAL 6006 and if not, at least find a much darker grey than the one I am now using (a lighter shade).

SS Cans Reproductions

David wrote:I have a 1944 Dated German can, and it still has it's original coat of Feldgrau! Yes, the early color and it is all original.

BTW, SS cans are not that rare. I've seen at least a dozen or so at Beltring, and I come across them regularly on the smaller shows too.

David. Original SS Cans are still Rare. There are more showing up in Europe that are reproductions from the Czech Rebuplic, There are well made but if you know what to look for they are obvious REPROS. TheDealers like to get the same price as an Original but the word is out.

lucakiki wrote:What is the rarest jerrycan, any nationality, that you ever found?I am sure answers can differ worldwide,as some dream of the german ss can, while others like me would rather put their hands on a Navy WWII can,and some just drool for early galvanized cans of U.S. manufacture...I thought to run a poll on the subject, just for checking.
Luca. I know my rarest Gas/ Watercan that I own is a German Pre Standarized 20l Gas Can. From what I lerned so far which is not much it could be a Prototyp for the famous Jerrycan. I don't know how to Post a Picture on this Forum.

Immediately after the war the German manufacturers started making the cans again for the Allies. This is probably what Jaap has; basically a German can but with different stampings. The best know examples are those with original "Wehrmacht" stampings that were overstamped with French markings; using up old stocks of material for "compensation" orders (for inflicted war damage). This also happened with the VW 82 Kubelwagen and the NSU Kettenrad; small numbers of these were produced for the British army in 1945 and 46.

Peter, It looks like a factory produced piece, I think Monarch had a small production run of these cans. Maybe they aren't as unusual as I have previously thought. Maybe someone can enlighten us. Jon

I picked up a 1942 Monarch gas can with the McCord cam lock lid. "USA" on one side "QMC" on the other, at an antique car swap meet in Arkansas for 5 bucks.
