staff car
Hi
It is not a contract staff car, either a copy or procurment.
It is interesting that a non contract car would make such a journey (Pacific, middle east and back).
The map board is cool though.

I'm no real history type but the 6th division (kangaroo and boomerang) was recalled from the middle east to defend the Australian mainland against the impending Japanese march south.
Churchill refused the request for their middle east withdrawal and the Australian PM gave him the big finger.
The division was then re posted to New Guinea. The color might be correct for the Middle East but was not used in New Guinea to the best of my knowledge.

TO DIAGNOSE, TROUBLESHOOT OR FAULT FIND ANY AUTO SYSTEM....
Understand how system parts interact with one another. GOOD parts can then be established & the NOT GOOD problem/s part/s isolated for repair or replacement.

Hi John,
When Lang purchaced that staff car it was painted olive drab. When they sanded it back thay found the sand colour underneith.
I laughed when I read it had armor glass. Most australian built cars had that glass. It is a brand name.
Ernie, What do you mean by non contract? Did you mean contact?
Australians brought most of there vehicals home including the ones we stole from the yanks.

contract
Hi Jeff
what i meant was there were a few staff cars built under military contract, just like jeeps and WC dodges, and these cars had quite a few differences from the civilian cars that were converted.
the easiest thing to spot is that on a contract car, there are no civilian lights and the mounting hole for all the civilian lighting is blocked off from the factory.

What I have noticed with Australian Staff cars in the early parts of WW2 1939 to 1942 they used standand civilian cars and painted them, just like the one we are talking about. Later in the war they manufactured some cars that were very basic no trim and no lead wipeing.
I have never seen an Aussis car with differant lights. Have you got any photo's?

one never knows
It's nigh on impossible to be 100% certain ,with the many of the sedans from the 1939 to 41 period, that they were used by the military . If you had a good reason for owning a car , e.g. taxi , doctor , then you could buy a new car or keep your existing car . Did all of the 1940 model sedans e.g. Chevs , Dodges , Fords , go into military service here in Australia... no they didn't .
A hire car company , here in Victoria ran some 1941 Pontiacs , as a business . You could apply to buy a new car ... there were exemptions for certain people -essential users . I looked at a 1941 Willys sedan in Bendigo, years ago, it had been purchased new by a doctor , during the war , it was Holden bodied .
Just because a car was painted a tan colour , doesn't mean it was used in the M.E. By the way , the AIF had a policy of only taking Chevs and Fords overseas , in the main . I have never seen a pic of a locally assembled RHD Richards bodied Dodge ( Langs former car is really a Plymouth disguised as a Dodge anyway, the genuine Nth American Dodges are a different car , we here in OZ , got the Canadian stuff as a cheap alternative , being part of the EMPIRE old chap . ) in the Middle East ..... the AIF took Fords and Chevs as staff cars mostly . It looks nice , painted in light stone , with 6th Div AIF formation sign, but it's a mock up , originally done in khaki in Adelaide . Who knows , it was probably a taxi in Adelaide for the duration ....
