Body tub numbers

Post by nzjeep1942 » Sun Jan 11, 2026 6:28 pm

I found the body tub number on one of the jeep tubs I have. Is there a way to get a year of manufacturer from the number? My chassis is a 1942 but the tub I plan on using I believe is 1943 or later as it looks like a ACM2 tub. The body number is 32853. Thanks for any help.

It looks like Mar 1944 for an ACM2 tub with that number. I have the following in my database:

DOD. Tub Number
2/22/44 17404
3/16/44 35688

I concur with Seth estimate.
I have body #32691 in GPW serial # 189494 dated from March 1944 in my DB.

I cleaned the area with the numbers of better and it is actually 132853. I'm guessing that makes in a even later production tub?

That's going to be sometime in October. I've got
Tub Number DOD
125797 9/21/1944
138000 10/26/1944

I've got some closer tub numbers but for DOD for those tubs all I have is 10/x/1944

See last two posts above for tubs in the 132xxx range.

I have found the tub was ex French army. This likely explains some of the other weired numbers stamped in to it in various locations. I am planning on making the tub in to an acm1 as my chassis is a late 42 and I have a acm1 firewall and front floor. Is there anything else different between the acm2 and acm1 tubs?

I think the biggest difference is in the hat channels. The ACM 2 uses the Ford design hat channels. ACM1 hat channel is unique to AMC1.

Hi,

Difference between ACM1 & 2!

Captive nuts! ACM1 has less of them - ACM2 has most holes with them learning from the early Ford tubs.

Places to look - air filter bracket holes. Rear footrest mounting holes. Decomtaminator bracket holes.
