speaking of which,
does anyone know the nomenclature between the two rods ?
since the towed one is different than the plain one.
I know the towed one is M2A1, maybe the plain one is M2 ??
or maybe its the M5A1 called out in TM 9-724 ?

I didn't dig deep enough to look for the rods used with the various light tanks but here are some scans of rods for the M3 and M3A1 37mm towed anti-tank guns. I've added a sketch made years ago of the early M5A1 staff with the eyelet on one end and the reinforcing sleeve crimped in the middle, just in case someone wants to make one.

Re: FS: 37mm Cleaning Rods, for Stuart, Armored Car, AT Gun, etc.
pretty confusing, there would have been no reason for the tank version to have the re enforced section, of course since the towed piece was obsolete so early, they might have just put those rods back in the system, but that doesn't answer M2 Vs M5 question ?

Brian, I'm not familiar with the M2A1 designation for 37mm cleaning staffs. Where did you find that?

Thanks Brian. I looked in the earlier 1940 edition of the FM and it also calls the staffs M2A1. I can't explain that as the SNL says M5A1 with the same features shown as in the description in the FM.

well iv seen the brass re enforcements before, and iv seen plain, but have never seen the steel sleeve.
you might need to compare dates on the SNL and see if there's an earlier one.

The sketch was made from the staff on my M3 gun. I've always assumed the steel ends and center sleeve were later production in the war when brass became a critical material.
