Post by 43chev » Thu Apr 01, 2021 1:43 pm

Hi guys,
I was just wondering if anybody know the sizes of the tools used in the 1-1/2ton Chevy tool kits , would they be the same as the jeep tool kit

TM 9-805, 30 DEC 43 for the G506 and TM 9-801, 22 FEB 44, for the G503, call for the same wrenches. I didn't look at screwdrivers and such, but assume (!) they had more in common than different.

41-W-448 N/A WRENCH, adjustable, auto. type, 11-in.
41-W-486 N/A WRENCH, adjustable, Crescent type, 8-in.
41-W-991 723 WRENCH, Engr., 3/8" x 7/16"
41-W-1003 25 WRENCH, Engr., 1/2" x 19/32"
41-W-1005-5 27C WRENCH, Engr., 9/16" x 11/16"
41-W-1008-10 28S WRENCH, Engr., 5/8" X 25/32"
41-W-1012-5 731A WRENCH, Engr., 3/4" X 7/8"

This wrench combo was the same for G503, G506, G508 (CCKW) and DUKW. The 1/2 and 3/4T Dodges were slightly different. Not sure who provided OEM wrenches for the GM produced trucks, but that'd only be an issue if you're doing a factory class restoration.

Eventually the 41-W-486 was deleted from the G503 (I don't know the date); I have no info one way or the other about the G506.

You should be able to find a digital copy of both TMs for free somewhere on the internet. I didn't save links to either, or I'd provide them.

Good luck,
Steve

Here's a link to the G506 TM, for free: https://ia801209.us.archive.org/29/item ... 5_text.pdf

Same site has other TMs - I pulled down a G503 TM. All are easy downloads.

If going to work on a vehicle, I'd MUCH rather have a hardcopy from Portrayal Press in my hands, but that's me (no connection to Portrayal Press, but I'm pleased with the products they put out, and what he's been doing on YouTube for several years). And an original hard copy on the book shelf, but I don't have a G506.

Hmm, I don't want to promise anything, but give me some time and I may have something that helps. I just have to get the time to lay my hands on it (if I can find it first  ).

Well bummer, I have so far not found anything else (I have the shop manuals it turns out, but they include nothing about the on-board tool kits). I may still have another that includes them, but won't be able to check for a while.
