G503 New web page for serial numbers

Post by YLG80 » Sun Dec 27, 2020 2:37 am

There is a new website, https://sn.g503.com for the G503 jeep serial numbers database.
Unfortunately it seems that empty entries are not blocked.
The last two entries, record# 7105 and 7104, have no serial number entries nor any jeep description.
It looks like a user entry error but this will jam the DB.
Also the jeeps are sorted by last updated and no longer by new entries.
Only a feedback to the webmaster  .

And how do I remove my name as owner of a jeep that I sold?

If possible in the future, could we have a link to contact the registered owner ?

It will be a great tool.
How to edit existing record details?
I am logged but I can edit model, SN, owner address but not details like DOD, engine sn etc.

Great effort!
Could do with a search button. Perhaps in the near future.
Also noticed that Cam Bennett lives all over the world :D

He is scouring the web for jeep’s with serial numbers and details.
He has already added many jeep’s to the DB.

So if I wanted to find a certain range of numbers I need to scroll and scroll?

I dont want any of my contact info on there too many scammers, I already have a seperate email for the gee.

And who is this guy scouring the net for jeep info. You should not be able to put any info on about a jeep unless it is yours.

There's a primitive search function that will allow you to search a range. It's a stripped down interface to the G503 database from the old site.

Hi everyone,

AFAIK the database is a 'work in progress' at this time. There was still some work to do and wrinkles to iron out, so I'm sure that in time all will be good.

If you do not want to show the owner details, it’s gone be a pure jeep database.
So why not adding jeep data, even if you don’t own the jeep?
Many G503 users are not uploading their jeep data in the G503 DB.
It’s nice to trace a jeep history!
If an owner sells his jeep, it would be enough to mention SOLD in his own record.
Perhaps the new owner will enter that jeep serial again, and we can follow the jeep fate.
A few jeep’s are travelling all around the world.

I’m interested to have a jeep contact, even if it’s a secondary email.
For example with that newly added jeep from Edward White.(Somme, France)
Thanks to my Australian jeep data, I know that his jeep MB engine was previsouly in an MB registered In the Australian Army registration diary, prior to be installed in his GPW, also registered. And the original MB engine was replaced by a ... GPW engine :D .
Not sure that he knows...

Yes, the last records are empty and a few input fields are missing when you try to enter a new jeep.

No one but the jeep owner should enter information into the system. Unless, the owner provides the entry person with permission to do so.

I do understand the desire to document jeep history but that should not override the privacy of the current owner. Even if the current owner's personal info is omitted from the database.

Once entered, the jeep owner has no control over the information because he no longer owns that data. The jeep owner should be the one who decides if he/she wants to disclose and give away the info.

For example, good people get investigated for operating as an unlicensed vehicle dealer all the time. These data entries, coupled with other evidence, can be used to support those accusations. The investigations sometimes do not find any illegal actions and charges may or may not be filed. But, either way, I don't want my name on any police report.

I know this first hand. For many years I was a Detective in a specialized unit that had a specific detective assigned to investigate DMV violations, vehicle repair businesses, auto dealers, and to bust chop shops (Auto Theft TASK force). The units are very well funded and the detectives are all "car guys" who are known for thinking out side the box by using public info to initiate investigations. They do a great job vindicating victims of vehicle related crimes.

Just my 2 cents worth about public databases.

I agree with you arguments, but could you elaborate on how you imagine to restrict the data entry to only the owner, without adding a huge workload on Ron's team.
This was not the initial goal, I guess...

Also isn't it a useful record added by Cam Benett. This is a stolen 1943 GPW in Belgium.
