BRC 80th anniversary

Post by George Hollins » Wed Sep 23, 2020 9:40 am

Eighty years ago today, the Bantam BRC pilot car was delivered to Camp Holabird, MD, September 23, 1940.

Over a decade ago, Duncan Rolls built the only known replica of the original BRC Pilot. This replica is now in the Terry Williams collection in Texas.

Terry Williams has made a brief video birthday tribute to the BRC, which you can watch here:

Three quick trivia questions........ WHO drove the Pilot to Camp Holabird? WHO followed him in the trail vewhicle? and How many ( within three of four) of the COMPETITORS ( Willys, Ford, etc.) showed up for this test trial, per the original contract and bid? Very few people know the correct answers......are you one of them?

The 1940 BRC replica in Russia is a Duncan Rolls restoration. Duncan built the 1940 BRC pilot and three 1940 BRC replicas. The 1940 BRC Pilot and two of the three 1940 BRC are in the Terry Williams collection. The third Duncan Rolls 1940 BRC replica was sold to Russia.

Robin Burfoot built two 1940 BRC replicas. One is still owned by the Burfoot family. The other one is in the Fred Smith collection.
