WTB: Early MB Intake Manifold

I am looking for an early MB intake manifold, A-1163 casting number, rounded corners, no vacuum ports.

How early is your engine? New evidence shows that from roughly Nov 42 on, the three plug intake was being used in anticipation of the PCV.

Mark. that pic is identical to mine. is that one yours? i am looking to buy one as mine has a slight crack at the mounting flange. don't know if that can be brazed or not...

don't know if that can be brazed or not...

It can be properly welded by someone who can do it. I can’t, but my buddy who’s a former pipeline welder repaired another friend’s F marked intake and not only does it hold, you can hardly tell it was done.

That's funny, it could be yours! I was looking for a photo to use as a reference and did an image search for an A-1163 manifold and that was one of the pictures that came up. I would avoid using a repaired manifold based on personal experience. I have used two over the years (one was welded, one was brazed) both eventually failed. I doubt either repair was done by a professional welder/machinist but they both looked decent. I think it is fine to fill in a added hole for a vacuum port but the mounting flanges are under stress (which is why we so many with cracked flanges). I would rather find one that is good and not take a chance on a repair.

Headed to machine shop in the morning. my problem started with replacing the exhaust manifold that had a large crack between the header and the heat control valve back, on top and both sides. the new exhaust manifold isn't machined to work with my intake. that is how i cracked it....my bad. hoping for machine shop miracle. there is a good one here in Lubbock. here are my intake numbers. if any can shed light, appreciated. not sure if the engine was original to the frame and body....

welp. i was going to attach a photo then learned that you can't. you have to load to another website then attach a link here. until my registration gets approved it looks like the casting number is AE-1183 w6 or it could be AE-1163 w5....hard to tell. any info is appreciated.

Mark, it is not the manifold being under stress that results in so many flanges being cracked. It is installing them improperly. The intake and exhaust manifolds bolt together with four bolts. These four bolts should only be finger tight until both manifolds are bolted to the engine block giving both the intake and exhaust flanges some looseness until being seated and then come back and tighten the four bolts that join the two manifolds. Just my $.02 worth......... -RG
