Did anyone ever find a shock that works?

Every day that goes by on the orginals makes me a little more nervous.
In the midst of a total resto so now is the ideal time to replace.

I did. An equivalent that is within a few millimetres of the extended length of an original. I can get them here in Oz.

LOL - Care to share? Or is it unique to the land of Oz?

No idea of the brand now, I repainted them to go on my Greyhound.

Can back track and see if they are still available. It was probably 8 years ago and IIRC cost was around
AU$1,600 for the 6. Need to identify the company I sourced them through.

Hi 82nd recontbp,

Some French dealers have the shocks listed. Did you try them?

Hi all,

I’m looking to locate the wheel cylinder kits in the cross over list. I’m hoping they may solve my leaking wheel cylinder issues. The types are:

• Raybestos WK37
• Napa UP37
• Carquest EIS C550

All of the online resellers I’ve found appear to be out of stock. EBay has nothing listed. I know these kits were used in some models of Chevy truck. Has anyone got a lead on where I might find these kits?

Thanks

Here are two sources I found:

https://www.thewrenchmonkey.ca/products ... stos/wk37/
seems to be in Stock but is in America Junior.

https://www.finditparts.com/products/38 ... stos-wk-37#

Not sure why there is suddenly a shortage, but there is indeed.
Do you need all 6?
I have a few extra and we're a ways away from getting to the brakes. I can send you some and wait for more.

Try the dealers selling GMC CCKW parts. I think it's the rear wheels cylinder kit. Or go over to the truck forum and ask who has spares.

Hi John and 82ndrecon,

Thanks for the replies. I'm inclined to get say four kits, so that I can then do 2 wheels and be sure it has solved the problem without spending a pile of money for no improvement. Everything I read here suggests that in the US, everyone who has done it has had good results. I'm not sure what the difference is with the guys in Europe though. Everyone I speak to over there say they just use the standard NOS donut cups (with cylinders that aren't sleeved) with no issues.

I'll try those sources you've suggested.

I went with the shorter pistons and cup seals during my complete brake job and liked the results. There has been a lot of brake talk on the G over many years, some of it by me. Does anyone make repro donut seals?

Hi John

Yes, I read over all the posts you had made about your brakes. It does sound very good.

The reproduction donut cups that I got made cost the equivalent about $10 USD each so $20 per cylinder. I’m glad I didn’t get enough for all the wheels, knowing now that they weren’t a fix.

If repro stock ones work then that is OK but if the lip is as sharp as original I think there is less rubber on the cylinder and a smaller pit would cause a leak. Just a guess. The cup seals have more rubber in them and were more flexible than my original seals and I can't imagine repro donuts would match the flexibility.

My other theory, for those who haven't read past threads, is a theoretical negative to cups. Unlike most brakes, these cylinders are vertical and it might be possible for an air bubble to stay trapped in the lower cups. I don't know if bleeding will move that out. If the cylinders were horizontal like most cylinders a bubble would float away. My brakes always had a spongy feel, although with the 3rd model hydrovac it had a big power brake effect. Maybe it was slightly different adjustment from wheel to wheel? Or just the way these vacs work?

Anyone know of a cross over for a modern rubber steering boot? The original rubber canvas zipper ones are about toast on our M8
