Post by sunnybob » Thu Jan 09, 2020 11:56 pm

looking for any exploded diagrams on the horn arrangement on the steering column. Mine is broken and I think I am going to have to make something.
Thanks

I don't know of any diagrams or drawings, but it's very simple. No need to make anything, it's all available:

And a reminder, CJ-5 Horn Button after 1961 is different and does not fit.

I noticed some detail in the Parts Manual I have. The exploded view in it is for the small horn button that sits on the steering wheel nut - but that's specific for the early CJ-3B that I own.

It's difficult to know without more information what you have. Stock wheel/ swapped wheel from another model, year, etc. A picture could help with what you need.

I remember the CJ-3B having the rubber caps from the beginning.

I did find a bit more info and some images on the early style:
https://cj3b.info/Tech/HornButton.html

Studying the 3B changes, you'll note there are two different horn buttons.

As I dug into this, it appears up to '62 the small raised button was used. 1963 and on appears to have the larger recessed button:

There were 3 style Horn Buttons used starting with MB/GPW thru CJ-2A early CJ-3A, CJ-3B and late 61 Era CJ-5

Small Bakelite MB/GPW CJ-2A, Early CJ-3A
1-1/4" Rubber, Late CJ-3A, all CJ-3B, CJ-5 up thru late 1961
2-3/8" Recessed CJ-3B and CJ-5 Starting with late 1961
The Early M-38 did have a small Bakelite similar to MB/GPW, CJ-2A, etc., but it was configured different on the bottom surface with a dimple.

I've got these two. Both fit the wheel nut, one's just taller.
