Dodge WC crush washer location.

Post by signsup » Wed Feb 12, 2020 12:26 pm

Got new crush washers for the command car, 4 inner and 4 outer. The wider ring washer is the outer and the thinner material from ID to OD is the inner washer.
But as I'm looking at my fitting and banjo bolt, what are they calling inside and outside? Can't find any details in my manual.

Is the outside washer facing the outside of the truck wheel assembly? Or is the inside as it is between the fitting and the wheel cylinder?

I made the mistake of taking the old ones off not knowing they were two differenct washers.

I think they only go one way; one will have an ID too small for the head of the bolt. That one will go between the connection and the wheel cylinder.
My G507 SNL gives the dimensions; if you want I can copy them.

Thanks Tom, I haven't pulled them apart yet, I didn't think about the bolt being shouldered to fit the two different inner diameters. And a washer labeled inner or outer doesn't help me, I still don't know what part of the truck is inner or outer. But I'll loosen one in the morning and it sound like it should be ovvious which ones go where.
I already learned about brake line flares and tube nuts the hard way. Oh well, my shop floor is nice and clean now from all the brake fluid.

I have six sets of them, washers, bolts, and connectors, in my garage for my WC63 but it is 20 degrees in it right now which is why I only spend 3 minutes looking for them; they are in there somewhere.

From memory the washers will not interchange, you can't go wrong.
The inner and outer reference is in relation to the banjo bolt, the inner is the threaded end and the outer is the head end.

Well, I think I got it figured out, but hopefully, you can see where I got confused. Johns calls the "fatter" washer the outer washer. And, it is "fatter" because the ID is smaller and will not slip over the shoulder at the head of the banjo bolt. So, as in my photo, the larger ID, thinner washer goes at the head of the bolt and the smaller ID, fatter washer goes on the threaded end of the bolt.
So this would mean that the head of the bolt is the inner washer and the fitting to wheel cylinder is the outer washer.

Is it just me?

Did you use WAGNER Parts Numbers as a reference? I keep spares manufactured by WAGNER using the original Wagner numbers as listed in the SNL's which makes it very simple.

Robert; you are GTG.
I did look for mine but froze before I found them. Somewhere in one of 200 boxes of parts.

This is correct, fit with the banjo bolt should be obvious.

We are all saying the same thing except for John at Midwest Military who is describing these washers as the opposite of what we are saying. But, yes, the bottom line is they only go on one way. Or, only one washer size will fit over the shoulder head of the bolt. But, I'm buttoned up and dry so far. Will check in the morning when I bleed brakes . . . again.

Good. And JB is correct; the inner means the inner side of the truck toward the center of it. Outer is toward the outside of the truck, from the center line.
