Source for 9.00x16ndt's

Post by signsup » Wed Jan 01, 2020 6:48 pm

Looking for new shoes for baby. The Firestone NDT's seem to be about $320 each plus tube and flap. I thought STA made an NDT in that size, but can't find anyone selling them. The STA is a deep lug mud and snow type tire, not a true military NDT.
So, is the Coker Firestone NDT the only option for my Command Car?

Speedway Tire is the lowest cost option I know of for NDTs. I've got 3 years so far on my daily driver. I get them shipped from Performance Plus in Long Beach, CA.

I got 5 Speedway 700x16s two days ago; look fine. Try out the 900x16s and report back.
Oh, here is what I did for my WC63; I didn't want to spend $2500 for 7 tires, so I got 7 Michelin 900x16 XL tires from Canada. Like new, look cool, and only $100 each.
And they are a bit taller than NDTs so you can make your speedometer wrap completely around. And makes your truck look like French Army.

I had looked at the Speedway tires for my G506 and was debating if we could live with the ugly large Speedway logo on each tire. I was considering mounting the Speedways on the inner duals where you could see the logo and putting Firestones on the outer duals. But the 7.50x20 size is not available, so it's a moot point for now.
At half the price and free shipping with their current promotion, this is an attractive option for the Dodge that will not be a museum piece anyway.

I have seen the listings for the current radial tire take offs, bu but the Wrangler type tread design is a little drastic for a WWII truck. IMO.

Those speedway tires out of India have very soft rubber compounds. They will ware down fast.... depending how much driving you do.

Always another choice; Michelin 11.00 X 16/

I think they look great, my opinion only...

Yes, I have run Michelin 11x16s on my Dodges for many years now, and just got some 9x16s for my WC63.

Just ran across these this evening. Never heard of Astro tires, but it's another option for under $200 a tire new. Free shipping as well from Simply Tire.
I think I will still go for the 14 ply SWT Military tires for $179 plus free shipping.

I called SimpleTire to ask the origin and the rep I talked to didn't know other than to say "Asian".

I bet they are made in PRC. A search on Alibaba shows several 9.00-16 military NDTs made by an outfit called Qingdao (several versions of Qingdao) which sell for less than $100 in China.

The Astro Tire website is totally opaque on who they are and where they are other than to say their tires are made in Asia.

Free Corona virus with every set delivered!

Got my combat rims sandblasted and painted and ready to go. Tubes and flaps are in and ready to go. Waiting on 14 ply Speedway tires to arrive and baby will get a new pair of shoes. I'm pulling the old M37 wheels and tires off tomorrow and putting the command car on jackstands and will replace the brake hoses just because verything else from the PO looks brand new, so new hoses will give the next owner as much peace of mind as I can provide.

Then new tires will get put on her. Exciting times ahead!
