Re: Colorizing photos, First attempts
Did some more work. Still don't feel happy with the skin but I'm not too sure how else to adjust it.

The colors are different on my computer than the image I upload. Not sure how to fix that. The skin is just slightly more pink on my computer the the sky is less saturated.

Re: Colorizing photos, First attempts
Caucasian skin is the most difficult thing to get right. That's because it is not just a single color. Parts of the face will have more blood closer to the surface and will look SLIGHTLY redder, while shaded areas may have a cooler color shift. I would suggest you look at a few photos of the face, and find the areas that are redder, cooler and yellow or tan tinged. Another approach is to look at portraits by some famous painters. They had to do what you are doing, just with paint. Try this: have someone take a photo of you in a similar lighting setting as the photo you're working on. Blow it up to see the color shifts. Remember light changes a lot depending on weather and time of day and year. Good luck again

Here's another move done. I need to learn to add multiple colors in one section but I feel like I'm getting a little better the more I do.

Re: Colorizing photos, First attempts
Hi Daniel. I think you got the skin tones perfect! Bravo. It's difficult and I'm sure you spent a bit of time with it. I would next work on the green trees in the background. They're too green. I'm not sure vegetation would have that color to start with. Look at photos of trees, grass, etc. in photos and you will see that things should be a muted color even up close. I would also like to point out what's called "aerial perspective" which is an art term which shows distance by toning down the colors far away because of the air and dust in the air. The Mona Lisa is a good example that quickly comes to mind. Look carefully in the distance and you will see that DaVinci used very pale grayed blue to show the air between Mona Lisa and the distant landscape. So try that. But the important thing is that you have captured that pilot's skin tone spot on! Congratulations!

Thank you very much! On my co punter screen it looked less neon. I have adjusted the color and hopefully it's better. The photo was taken in the Philippines so I did look into some photos to compare it to as well.

Re: Colorizing photos, First attempts
Started work on another last night. I have more work to do with the faces as I haven't had time to layer in any other colors and I need to fix the tie color as well. I spoke with the one on the right. Another veteran fron the Philippines, pictured with his twin brother who was in the army air corps.

My lates photo for a local veteran. I have to learn how to layer colors to add definition and more realism to the skin, other than that I'm looking for constructive criticism and anything that's off. I realized the background is likely building s and I will be correcting that as well.
