2 jeeps on 1 trailer

Post by parker007 » Mon Nov 18, 2019 8:50 pm

im planing trip halfway across usa from ca to co. im planing to haul 2 gpw jeeps and my trailer is only 18.5' so i will find trailer to buy close to where 1st jeep picked up. for those that haul 2 ww2 jeeps what is shortest length to get both on. i plan to run bumper past front and leave back jeep hang over some.

Start your trip with the trailer you will finish with. Think you will buy a cheap trailer with good tires and brakes and inspection and what not? You can only legally hang over 4' past your tailights, check your states regulations. if load looks like trouble you will get pulled over. Too much toungue weight and your truck will be looking up in the sky, good reason for a ticket and hours at the scales if a officer wants to weigh you and check paperwork.

Wood has been replaced by steel grating parallel to trailer, no hangover, rear jeep wheels above dovetail. You know what the jeep measures. 7k# minimum trailer. A 1500 pickup wont do it without HD rear spring work.

Check all state regulations you are going through, If truck scales say "all vehicles" 10,000# GCVW you must stop, so be legal and safe.

Probably not, but it looks professional, you can tie straps to it, you dont have to drill holes in your frame to hold it on, and if you are worried about 40 lbs you need a bigger tow vehicle or buy the correct trailer.

Not worried about 40 lbs, but I'm probably going to need to replace the existing wood in the next couple of years so I was curious. My trailer is a 7000 lb 18' tandem axle which is more then adequate for my MB & MBT. My tow vehicle is a tad undersized, but adequate for nearly flat Houston when driven appropriately.

Google says the "nifty hauler" is a 20 ft trailer. The boards he's added in the front would give you a deck length of about 22 ft.

Two jeeps end to end like that are about 23 ft.

Most of those trailer sizes are in stock, 4500 to 5500 plus all the fees.
I just took that black trailer off the road, it was 30 years old, bought it new. Now it needed everything from complete axles to crack welding to sandblasting and painting. spring bolts were worn, spring eyes were worn bla bla bla., Thats what you will get if you buy used, and this one was totally redone 8 years ago.

Walked in to the dealer, bought a galvanized one off the lot, 9900#, 5200# torson axles,I;m never going to replace a shakle or bolt again. this was $6400. I can get another2 or 3 foot on the front of this one, make a removable steel grate, drop it right into the front pocket once that guard is gone. Long front hitch. Look how wide and long the hitch and connecting rails are.

Don't forget that you can hang everything forward of the tires over the front rail and gain 18 inches there. Jeeps are 11 feet long; do the math.

I Just bought a new PJ trailer yesterday. It's 24' and 102" wide with two 7K axles. I can easily haul 2 Jeeps and I can also put Jeep trailer sideways on it too. It was $5600.00 new in Texas. It has a 12k capacity so I can haul big trucks because it has drive over fenders so dual wheels are no problem.

Couldn't be happier with my PJ. Bought last winter. 22', 5 channel Buggy Hauler they call it. I upgraded the axles to 5200#, total cost $3900. Perfect for my jeep and trailer, and can handle 2 jeeps with no problems.
