The journalist was likely just coming out of the bush to write such a stupid article in June 1942, New South Wales, Australia. :shock:

The writer is correct though - there was a cartoon character connected (somehow) with the Jeep. Perhaps someone can find a photo?

He seems to appear on a lot of restored jeeps in the U.K.

There a few stories on how the “Jeep” got its name. Not all refer to Eugene the Jeep and none are truly confirmed.
The term “Jeep”, in a military sense, even predates WWII.
