Air Filter Clip Screw size

Post by Spencer54 » Wed Jul 03, 2019 6:57 am

Anyone know what the size of the air filter clip screw is?
Specifically the one that is on the clips that hold the concertina rubber pipe from the cross over tube to the air filter.

Thanks

Interesting, just to be clear this is the pan head screw that is used in the wire clips.

The Part No. of the Clamp used for the Air Cleaner Hose is WO-635097. I have an NOS here in front of me The screws used in the originals are a 10-24 X 1-1/2" Round Head just like the one in your pic.I also removed the screw to gauge the thread, it is #10-24NC.
Original clamps do not have the bright finish as you have illustrated, other than that, the clamp has original features.
Nice find, tho.

Pictures are of the JMP clamps - I'm having trouble installing as the screw appears short, or my rubber is too thick.
The screws supplied measure from the end of the thread to the base of the Pan Head 1.340" or 34mm.
If your NOS one is 1.5" that makes theirs about 5mm too short which is nothing really, but if the hose its 5mm too wide - then that explains why I'm short.

Looks like I'll need a 2" one to make life easier.

Thanks for the info much appreciated.

I probably could buy some 10-24 Round Head Screws ithat are 1-1/2" long in a Hardware store and mail them to you.
I bought my clamps from Willys prior to the 70's.

Very kind of you, now you've supplied the size I'll have a hunt on ebay - they're bound to be here somewhere in use for something.

Those who have bought these apparanty excellent clamps here in the USA can simply go to a Tru-Value or ACE Hardware store and solve the issue for a few cents as they stock these screws. Am sure Joe's Motor Pool will soon have the correct hardware.

The first photo below show the thin, accordion-like hose that connects the air cleaner to the crossover as having the clamps with a LOT of excess threads after the screw has passed through the nut.

The second photo shows what appears to be the felt wrap-around junction being held by an all together DIFFERENT type of fitting. It would be much thicker and would require a longer thread to secure the clamp over it.

In other words, you may not be able to use the wire-type clamps where the crossover tube enters the air horn.

Or....if you have that correct "accordion-style hose" that connects the air cleaner to the crossover tube, then the wire-type clamps should not only be long enough, but should extend past the nut as shown in the photo above.

1) wrong hose between air cleaner & crossover tube?
2) trying to use the wire-type clamp where the crossover tube and air horn are joined?
3) wrong length screws in the JMP wire-type clamp?

My clamps are OEM, the Hose I stock is OEM From Jeep . The I.D. of the OEM A-1311 hose is 2-1/8" The I.D. of the 635097 HOSE CLAMP is 2-9/32".
It is quite evident that JMP used screws that are too short and should have been 2-1/2" in length.

And just to make sure, these are the clamps for the WO-A-1311 HOSE?

Joel....

As in the photo, can you confirm the clamps you are talking about are the WIRE TYPE that are used between the air cleaner and the crossover tube... and not the flat type used between the crossover tube and carb air horn.

I instantly recognized the clamps. Been looking under Jeep hoods since the mid 40's.

...again...which ones are you talking about, the wire-type or the flat-type and how long is the screw for that type?

Just sayin'...c'mon Joel, which of the two types are you posting the screw length on?

The 635097 Clamp only comes in one style, check the illustrations in the SNL's and CJ-2A/CJ-3A to confirm and the Originals on my MB are the same as the NOS OEM 635097 clamps I bought from Jeep wayback when. Those clamps all use a Round Head #10-24 X 1-1/2" Machine Screw.

The 10-24 Clamp Screws are not listed in any of the MB Parts manuals as they are a part of the Clamp Assembly.
Other than the short screws, JMP did a beautiful job.

And Chuck, although there was more than one manufacturer of that 2-1/8" A-1311 type Air Cleaner Hose, they all use the same wire style clamp.
Get out your Lloyd White books listing the Vendors to Jeep and see if you can ID that Air cleaner hose.Old time 40's manufacturer's (Vendors) were Gates, Dayton. Thermoid, etc., and they all looked a bit different.
