Recoilless rifle

Post by jeeptj1 » Sat Jun 15, 2019 3:16 am

I have a wobble in my recoilless and I’m thinking there’s some bearings or something that may be bad. I have several of the Tms but can’t find a picture of what it looks like under there. Anyone have a diagram of it? I saw this part someplace but not sure if this is it or not. Thanks John jr

I have the TM 9-1015-221-34P as a PDF and below I include pics of the Traversing and Shaft Assys and Parts Lists.

I can e-mail you a PDF of that manual if needed.

I have the TM 9-1000-205-12 Operation and Org Maintenance Manual Mar 1959 as a hard copy but it does not cover the repair of the T&E. That may be covered in a TM 9-1015-221-35 manual.

Check Shim #5 in first pic or that all the bolts are tight other than that I have no other suggestions since I have not taken mine apart and seems to be tight. The parts list shows 79 ball bearings. Check Bearing Race #7 and #14 plus Bearing #9 should be 9ea???????????

My guess is that the Shim or Shims will set the pre-load for the bearings since #17 in the other pic is listed as a tapered roller bearing????????????

John Jr. replied to your e-mail. Great looking machine lets us know what you find with the wobbly T&E.

Charles finally got under the mule. There is nothing noticeably loose underneath. The knob for a better word item seven in the diagram is tight. Im still thinking it’s the bearings in the original picture above. Maybe the knob was loose and it lost some of the bearings. Pretty sure I’m not going to be pulling the recoilless off to check it as it’s not that bad to me and I strap the handles down a little. Thanks for the offer of the pdf. I have that manual. I will see how things go with it. Thanks again. John jr
