BEAUTIFUL WARBIRD SIGHTED TODAY

Post by Joe Gopan » Wed May 15, 2019 8:59 am

P-51D "OLD CROW" stopped by for fuel 11:00 AM this date .
It parked in front of HANGAR 1 at Bandor International Airport (Formerly WWII DOW FIELD).
Last time I saw a Mustang next to that hangar was an IOWA ANG P-51 that was activated for KOREA and stationed at DOW. "It's Supermouse" was it's WWII marking and was visible where it had been polished out. "It's Super Mouse" served with the 352nd Fighter Group in WWII.
Pilot in today's sighting appeared to be Lee Lauderback. He headed to the North when he took off.

The antiglare portion of the cowling ans the area behind the propeller was sealed with a yellow tape. This tells me that the Mustang is on a very long flight and that the pilot does not want to have any oil that may seep get on the windscreen.
I could only view it from the fence about 150' away.
