M38 wiper motors
Picked up two of the below pictured M38A1 wiper motors at Aberdeen last weekend. They are brand new in the box and look great. I was told that all I needed to do to use them on my M38 was switch the manual arm 180 degrees by driving out a simple pin rotating it and reinsert the pin. I have pounded on this pin as much is I care too for fear of damaging the motor. It is not moving. Anybody got experience with this? If I’m able to get this arm turned around will these things even Mount correctly?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: M38 wiper motors
yes they'll work great... it's a tapered pin and a pain to drive out... one end will be bigger, once you figure that out it will come out

Great. Thanks for the reply. I kind of figured they might be tapered I was thinking it was the end that was in the furthest as opposed to the end that was sticking out. I guess I’ll need to try the other side.

Try as I might the pin will not come out. I think I may have even made it worse. I think I’m left with no option but to drill it out.

I removed several by making a hardwood cradle with a hole in it to receive the pin. The hardwood must support the manual lever or you risk bending the shaft. Be prepared to re drill because the hole isn’t perfectly centered in the shaft.

Ok. So I’m guessing drilling this pin out is not a new idea lol.

Wasn’t referring to drilling out the pin. Was saying when you flip lever 180 degrees the existing holes won’t perfectly line up and will need to be drilled to get pin reinstalled. This has been my past experience.

Either way, I had to resort to drilling them out. They would not budge, so short of destroying the whole thing I drilled them and replaced with a roll pin. It’s not pretty but it will work.

You did it the safest way because you can break the arm or shaft by banging on it too much.

Thanks. Yes I am 100% confident that I would have broken them if I continued to resort to hammering. It just wouldn’t move.

You will not be able to drill the pin. They are hardened and you will wreck the motor. I can change the arm for you, have been doing it for years.
