REMEMBERING DAVE ANWYLL, TEXAS GENTLEMAN
Dave Anwyll was a fine gentleman, airline pilot and fellow MV collector. He had parts stashed around the country. My first encounter was purchasing the M-37 Hot Water Heater Kits he advertised in the 70's, Dave would have them shipped from a North or South Carolina location in their original wood crates.I bought several during the cold winter in sub freezing weather. I was excited when the first one arrived and immediately opened the crate to discover frozen cockroaches all thru the black barrier paper. The 30F cold kept them dormant.
Luckily I did this outside in the bed of my Pickup and immediately finished the job at the land fill where the crate was incinerated.
I kinda miss Dave, he owned Redbud Surplus. Dave passed away about 20 years ago and his rare MV parts were purchased by Sid Beck, another great Texas gentleman.

Interesting story, Ben. What happened to Sid Beck's parts?

Re: REMEMBERING DAVE ANWYLL, TEXAS GENTLEMAN
I had the pleasure of knowing both men and their families. Both Dave and Sid were good people. I met them at the MVPA conventions years ago. They both were willing to share knowledge and inspire others to pursue this hobby. They got started in this business by purchasing other’s surplus from all around the country. They are surely missed by those of us who knew them. When I think of them and others who are no longer with us, I picture them driving their MV on the eternal road that has no end.

Vintage Power Wagons also bought up some of Dave’s surplus. Dave told me that he was the one that helped get Dave Butler at VPW started in the Military truck parts business. He was a real nice guy.

If he flew for Braniff then my father knew him, said he was a very nice man. Ah the good old days.

Re: REMEMBERING DAVE ANWYLL, TEXAS GENTLEMAN
Another GRAND OLD Texas Gentleman from back then was Tracy Lawrence, proprieter of Houston Truck and Equipment. Tracy would give you the shirt off from his back. Tracy had years of business contacts and would go out of his way to help with rare parts.
Texas was full of 40's-70's era Surplus dealers with parts aplenty for all MV's.

Dave was a great guy, taught me a lot about military Dodges. I was there when they were selling off his parts. A lot of parts trucks ended up at the junkyard. Sid Beck always had lot of nos parts and was a great guy too. Dave told me about a trip he and Sid made to Colorado, they bought a huge lot of M38A1's. I miss them both.

Another great Texas Gentleman was Lawrence Nabholtz, a great Army Jeep historian, and Korean War Veteran. Lawrence loved to get on the phone and talk Jeep by the hour. Honesty was his policy.
Lawrence would be 90 this year.

Re: REMEMBERING DAVE ANWYLL, TEXAS GENTLEMAN
I was present at Dave's last sale, I bought a NOS m38 tailgate Dave said he hated to get rid of it cause it was so nice. Also knew Tracy Lawrence. I would hang out at Houston Truck and Equipment on Friday afternoons spending my paycheck on jeep parts, man he would give some deals. He was a supper guy and friend. I remember him selling halftracks and about any type of equipment the govt surplused out. He would let his best customers dig through stacks and piles of stuff in his warehouse. Al gone now a parking lot, remaining stuff went to scrapper. The City of Houston basically shut them down for environmental bull Crimp One Off.
