Dover AAF, Delaware. File stamp is 1944......Maybe an early jeep with no jerry can mount? or just removed...and another detail.....once you see it, you can't unsee it

Nice picture.
Early MB: black sheller steering wheel, square fuel sump, early one piece wheels and long windshield holddown clamps so probably a low windscreen as well.
.....and one upside down rear bumperette. ( to visually correct the leaning-to-one-side? )

There is no experience in todays' world that will let us relive this 40's photo except more photos like it. Note the leisure atmosphere.
The GI at the pump may be wearing a "Jeep Cap".
This is how it was.

Hello,

Thanks for posting, it is a beautiful picture !
It was either late autumn, or early spring, as they are wearing field jackets.
Note the well built vehicle maintenance ramp built out back !
Also this jeep was assigned a trailer recently, as pintle hitch is in the open position.

I wonder if the USA number can be recovered from the photo ?
I hope this jeep is still around, somewhere, like in a barn, rust free !!

Interesting radio van in background as well, with a build out along the side.

Best Regards,
Ray
