Re: MB212720 W-20306183
3 or 4 months ago, with the help of my daughters boyfriend, we managed to lift the tub off the chassis
Got lots of work to do on it but have been makings some progress..
Replaced the front hat channels
Stripped, cut, filled and primed the dash and the footwells..
Also taught myself how to weld... quite happy with the results..!
First coat of OD is drying off as I type...!

I've been doing a lot of work on the rear chassis, cleaning fixing and painting..
Cleaned up and undercoat
and OD...
Some repairs required, first, the driver side shock absorber bracket was damaged
Cut it off, cleaned it up and welded it back on again.. good as new..
Also looked at the rear crossmember, it looks like it had been had a chain wrapped around it to tow stuff..
I thought I'd rather try and fix it instead of replacing, not perfect but looks OK..

Re: MB212720 W-20306183
Next up has been clutch, transmission, transfer box and prop shafts
Before:
With the help of a hoist I managed to get the whole lot apart relivitly easily
Then it was a case of addressing one piece at a time:
I stripped the transmission, inspected, for damage, measured tolerances... ended up with two piles, those that could be saved and what needed replacing...!
Prop shafts were stripped, painted, universal joints replaced (after the picture was taken!)
I changed the clutch while I had access, a load of new parts in the transmission, transfer box cleaned, inspected and re-assembled and all put back together
A bit of a wipe down to get all those grubby hand marks off and she's ready for the tub to go back on..

Hello OzH,
Beautiful !!
Such great progress you have made with your outstanding Jeep !!
Excellent work !
I want to commend you for fixing and repairing original parts like the rear cross member and shock absorber mount .
Keep us updated, that Jeep looks like it is getting ready to roll again
There are many Jeeps in this world that wish they had an owner as talented as you, that could restore them too
Best Regards,
Ray

Thanks Ray and Ralph
I'm sure I read somewhere that the fat rear drive was correct for a 43 MB..
Even if it's not, its picked it up along the way and seems quite happy!!
