Re: Tool Cabinet Variants
That is nice, I have been looking for one or two 41-C-15's but have not been able to find any locally.sincitygpw wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 10:08 amHi All
Here is some pictures of my other 41-C-15 cabinet. Thanks to pjones d42jeep Tin Medic mudbox for the heads up!!! My Wife Barbara for saying just buy it!!! Babe I love you... Some pictures of the rod that hold the top together for anyone curious what it looks like besides me.
The washers were pressed into the wood I didn't remove them.
Thanks
Dave

Thanks for the compliment! I got really lucky on this cabinet I was working on shipping quotes on another cabinet when I got the alert that this one was available locally. They will show up when you least expect it I had seen a few other cabinets at a good price but the sellers just wouldn't ship them. Good luck to you!
Thanks
Dave

Re: Tool Cabinet Variants
Thank you for posting pictures of the tool cabinet variant you were trying to identify because I just purchased one locally for $50 this past fathers day! See this link to craigslist which is still active because the seller has failed to delete it as of right now. Unless I am missing something I think this is a pretty good score for me.
https://baltimore.craigslist.org/for/6899567634.html
The seller was a nice man, his father was a mechanic / machinist at the Army's Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. The picture I am quickly posting here is the one he had on craigslist but I will take more pictures in the future as this cabinet is now sitting in my garage (and I will post other photos of similar cabinets as I find them. I have also provided another link below with some great pictures; it shows one that apparently was sold by "Industrial Artifacts" - a private company in Chicago - for $725! (I will have to save the pics and reduce their file size to post them here some other time):
https://www.industrialartifacts.net/col ... =510685445
To capture for posterity and save me time the description for the cabinet provided by IA is: "This vintage cabinet is impressively large and can hold a large amount of supplies. The cabinet is on 4 casters allowing for mobility of tools and supplies. The cabinet measures 2' deep, 46 3/4" long, and 44 1/2" tall. The top compartment is 23" deep, 46" long, and 6" tall. The eleven large drawers are 22 1/4" deep, 10 1/2" wide, and 9 3/8" tall inside. There are also 3 smaller divided drawers. Each of these drawers has three divisions that measure 20" deep, 3 1/8" wide, and 2 5/8" tall inside. Check out the faint but awesome insignia painted on the lid of the cabinet. The cabinet is all steel construction but the top compartment lid has a masonite face attached to it. The lid is attached with chains to keep it upright when open."
Note one of the best features of this cabinet: the top opens up and inside it essentially reflects a large toolbox that inside and encompasses the entire top portion of the cabinet. The main difference between mine and the one sold by Industrial Artifacts is that mine is missing the wheel casters, which is an easy fix for me. But more importantly the entire top row of the one I bought has inserts which facilitate three smaller draws to go into each of the four larger compartments along the top row (the IA cabinet just features one of the subdivided draws). And as usual, mine and the cabinet featured on the IA page are missing the security bars.
I cannot find any markings on my cabinet, although the IA photos feature one which shows some sort of manufacturer logo embossed into the Masonite board that covers the table workspace on the top lid of the cabinet. DOES ANYONE KNOW THE NAME / INTENDED USE / AGE / NOMENCLATURE FOR THIS CABINET etc?

Re: Tool Cabinet Variants
It was a terrific score and one that I am just a little bit jealous of. I work at APG several times per month. In fact, I am typing this from APG right now!! I'm not much of a CL or eBay guy unless someone tips me off. This one would've been very easy for me to pick up, needless to say! Yours is slightly bigger (taller, anyway) than the one Luke posted. It has a whole layer of small parts drawers, which will really come in handy. I can't help on the age. Congrats.

Re: Tool Cabinet Variants
Hey Guys, Travis here. New to the forum.
My father passed away last year and I was blessed to inherited his tool collection. He was a lifetime mechanic and body man. To my knowledge, he wasn't in the military, but he lived his entire life in a town next to a U.S. Army base. One of the tool cabinets he left behind appears to be a 41-C-15, although I was previously told that it was a Snap-on "military" rolling tool chest by someone who may or may not have known what he was talking about. Was hoping you could help me understand more about what I have here ...model, value, collectibility, where the paint / color scheme is original or custom.

Re: Tool Cabinet Variants
Redneck,
While the general shape, configuration of the drawers, and the handles DO resemble a 41-C-15 cabinet, 41-C-15 cabinets did not have all those key-latch locking provisions. As for the Snap-on OEM claim, I can neither confirm or deny, but, there is no rolling cabinet or stationary cabinet like that in any Snap-on catalog between 1939 and 1945.

Re: Tool Cabinet Variants
I think it is the Army 41-c-15 cabinet which has been modified with the locks and paint job. The locks are normally easy to add by elongating a hole, inserting the flat sided lock and fitting a back nut. They would not stop a determined thief but some petty pilfering.
