1st thought is it MUST be for hauling it to the firing position, but then is would be stowed with brackets like other weapons systems, not in a firing position. Must have been for a parade only shot, as we all know even a jeep couldn't take a smaller mortar like an 81mm without damage.

They wouldn't have that manhole size dish on the bottom if they weren't needed to absorb recoil.
