What size rivets are needed for clutch friction material?

Post by Auto Shop teacher » Sat Feb 02, 2019 3:43 pm

I have a brake shoe rivet tool that clamps in a vice so I assume it will work on clutch discs as well. I need to know the size rivets and material for the clutch. Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Do you have the old one drilled off yet? I think Auto Wheel and Rim in Louisville sells the material.

Automotive Friction Material in Birmingham, AL will re-line your clutch disc while you wait, at a very reasonable price. I have used them many times. They can also surface grind flywheels and pressure plates.

Thanks for the information and link Chuck, in my case I have a couple of clutch discs that I bought from Eastern and while the friction material is almost new, there must be some rust issues with the metal webbing between the friction plates as the gap is swelled in a few places. I am going to drill out the old rivets and see what I find out in the center.

Perhaps McMaster-Carr? They list all types of rivets in their on-line catalog: https://www.mcmaster.com/rivets
