MAB 4071 Starter

Post by 17thAirborne » Sat Feb 09, 2019 3:09 pm

I received this as a NOS starter for a Scout Car, but the numbers don't match. This is an MAB 4071 and the TM calls for an MAU 4006. Will this work in the Scout Car?

Shows up in the Studebaker us6 book. I found one online that shows up as Hercules and continental engine crossover. I would assume as long as the teeth are the same number on wash it should work.

It has 10 teeth and the NOS Bendix that I have are 13 teeth. Does not look like it will work. Thanks for the help, with research. 8)

The STUDEBAKER US-6 and WHITE Scout car do not share the same Bendix drive. They do share the same Armature , which means that the White Drive could fit that STUDEBAKER STARTER.

The WHITE Drive is an EBA-11.

Good to know. thanks. So what you are saying is you just need to swap the bendix and this starter will work on a scout car?

Hope I helped.

I can check out the parts list late to day to see if they share the same housing.

You did help...thanks. The TM lists the Housing as PS 1088 and the one on the case is PS 1123  It was worth a try. Perhaps a US6 owner will want this as it is listed for sale now in the 2 1/2 section.

And I double checked, they do notshare the same Pinion Housing., but you could probably swap housings if it comes down to that.

Will the 12 v vs 6 v be an issue other than spin faster? Having a fresh armature and guts would be nice. 8)

You should give Jerry Biro a call, he is a Hercules parts specialist with a tremendous inventory dating back to the 30's. He might have a Starter. He is fluent on Gov't and Civilian Industrial and Truck Engines.
