Re: USMC/NAVY Radio Jeep Serial Number Data
Slow death of an MZ-2 body. No numbers left on this one unfortunately, and the center glove box tag is a deteriorated silk screened version.
The radio dash tag is interesting as it indicates the Jeep is a CVD-10182-D, and was equiped at the USMC Depot of Supplies in San Fransisco. The tub resides near Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania.

I think we have several MZs recorded as being from the SF Facility.
Pretty cool!

Re: USMC/NAVY Radio Jeep Serial Number Data
Great... but some days I have issues unresolved in my mind?
We have this list I think you and I have discussed before, Farrell:
And we have these... which I seem to remember also discussing before:
So, did we agree that because the CVD-10182-C is dated after the CVD-10465 that we use it?
And why don't we have a listing for the CVD-10466 because Body number 258709 is a 24v.
"Hi Mark I have taken a few more pictures as well as having a little bit more information about it.
The body number is 258709
and the engine number is 630013
It does have the cut out in the bottom of the glove box like you show but not the hood/ guard affair on the drivers side.
It has something else in that place.
On first looking at it I thought it was just a hole bubba made for a rigged up tank neck but as you will see from the pics I very much doubt bubba would put that reinforcing behind it too
the hole is a true circle an there are two notches made in the circle not sure it can be seen in the pics which look like locating notches.
There is one other novel addition a brake lock tap on the steering column.
the pipe comes from the master cylinder to the column an back to the front axle tee !!!
I doubt it`s original but novel !!!
Regards Geoff"
Here is the thread with the data plate. viewtopic.php?f=84&t=290040&start=15
The links won't work, why is that as they are pretty new?

Re: USMC/NAVY Radio Jeep Serial Number Data
Is CVD-10466 a factory built vehicle, or a vehicle upgraded by the Navy Yard? Because the current list is categorized by factory built vehicles, and not upgraded ones. If the CVD-10466 24v vehicles are indeed factory built, I'll need more data to create their own category.

Yes Ferrell, it is. Do you have a copy of Lloyd’s MB book 2?

Re: USMC/NAVY Radio Jeep Serial Number Data
OK... Fred's chapter has some possible radio jeeps that we did not have all the information on when the book was published, stating several contract with various radio jeeps.
"Four different Navy radio jeeps were released for production in January 1945:
the MB-Navy Basic (MB-NB)
the MB-Navy-24
the MB-Navy-SCR
the MB-Navy-MZ-3"
Fred's chapter continues on to state some possible scenarios and occasionally I come back and try to put the missing pieces together.
Geoff Bull has the lower of these two plates on body 258709.
Note the contract, NXsr-79925 at the bottom of both the name plates.
So, we have two physical specimens of CVD-10466.
I just will need to find in my records what jeep the upper brass plate came off of.
Here was the generator name plate on the same jeep:
Here is the drawing on same.
What I suggest is a new category with CVD-10466 and to start with Geoffs radio jeep body 258709 as it's first entry.
The issue with the later radio jeeps and kits is what was actually built at the factory and what is put in or upgraded with a kit, either WWII, 1947 or 1949?
I don't really understand the contract description starting with the NXsr-53300 as being "jeep conversion" in the War Supply Contracts books?

Re: USMC/NAVY Radio Jeep Serial Number Data
Hi,
I believe I have located an MZ radio jeep, looking at its tub. It has :
The drivers side has the added aerial support panel on the inside.
The distinctive 4 large holes above each rear wheel arch.
A recangular hole behind the gearbox for a PTO that has a panel welded into it.
Six distincitive holes in the rear floor behind where the generator would be where the cable cover would be.
Two large holes either side of the above.
The added piece to the passenger side inner bracket (near the feet) with a large cable clip still present.
Large cable clips by the passenger seat, across the wheel arch and side.
Two of the original steel loop brakets on the rear crossmember.
Under the numerous coats of paint there appears to be a lot of USMC grey, the underside is green under all the flakey paint!
The tub is an ACM2 numbered 123507. It was recently imported to the UK from California.

I'm assuming no frame tag?

Here is a thread on the topic... the photos won't come up but I seem to remember the gusset number starting with a letter.

MZ-2 with body number 158037. Unfortunately no frame number or any other relevant numbers. This one is slated to be restored as a standard MB.
