WTB: VRY-4203A early regulator

Post by EJOWest » Sat Dec 08, 2018 7:08 am

I’m looking for an early VRY-4203A voltage regulator for my slat grill project. I think that’s the last piece i’m Missing. I do have a restored original “gas” gauge as partial trade or purchase without trade.
Thanks, Ernie

x2

Here are a couple pics...notice that this Sept 1941 one is a 25 amp and is listed for trucks.... but it is not for a g503....below is the Autolite list of parts with the VRY-4203A 40 amp you need. So....find an EARLY style and get a repop tag dated appropriately and you are good to go!

Ernie, the MB uses a 6v 40amp negative ground system...so you’ll need a 6v 40amp regulator (VRY-4203A as already indicated). I have several early examples that are spares...are you concerned about the dates?

Not to thread jump Michael I’m looking for a early type. Do you have any spare that are October or November

Hey Ernie,

Here is my December '41 regulator with original tag. I colored in the tag with a felt tip pen (don't tell Chuck). It also has a stamp on one of the mounting legs. I will try to get you a picture of that. This one came from Iceland.

Basically it was the proverbial "hens tooth" to acquire and from a most unlikely source country you would think. :D I tried to find one stateside but to no avail.

Okay Thanks! I have the 30-30 amp gauge and I thought the voltage regulator for the December Slats were 25 amp. I have now changed my subject to early regulator and left off the 25 amp!

Had mine rebuilt at Ron's by Dave. He did a beautiful job for a reasonable price. If you find a dog, they can make it a thoroughbred. :D

David, what do they charge? I have a few I need tested.

Ernie, I’ll see what I can come up with.

Check with Ron. I don't remember their pricing but it was reasonable as I recall. All I really remember was that it came out looking like new and it did have a nice new cork gasket with a wire and seal on the nut(s).

Are you still looking for a Autolite voltage regulator? Vry-4203a? I have one. I do not know a lot about this stuff. So I couldn't answer many questions. It still has the cork gasket so i don't believe it's ever been tampered with. It sat in a woman's house for 40 years until she died. Before that is unknown. The tag/label is a faded but in the right light you can see what it says. I don't know if your response will come to my email or if I'll need to log back in on this site but my email is nlangdon04@gmail.com. Like I said I do not know much especially prices. There is one on ebay for 500. I think that sounds kinda steep, could be wrong. Let me know if interested.
