I'm sure Chuck is spot on. Improvisation was something soldiers in the field became very good at. Trying to keep warm, dry and free of hunger played very much on their minds. That's what a lot of vets told me over the years. So yes if they didn't have a correct top for the trailer then anything would do.

I maintain my WWII and 50's MV's using tips from WWII Army Motors and the P.S. booklets. Joe Dope? There is a message to be learned from Joe Dope in that "cartoon" to those serious followers of GI PM.

Mark
Joe Dope was a cartoon figure created by Will Eisner. Joe was used in cartoons to show people not to be dopes/idiots/fools .with whatever job that they were doing. And if they didn't take care then their stupidity could then damage the war effort. Not checking oil in an engine, Correct air intyres ect ect

One of Joe Dope cartoons is in the SNL G-503. It shows Joe in a stores with all the parts in a mess.

Where's the "Binding" on these tarps?
Note the apparant length differences of the Corner Ropes compared to the sides and ends.
