I`m sorry I cant help with the canvas ID, but if you decide to sell one, or have some in too poor condition, i`d love the buckles and straps off one to repurpose onto another project for my MB and GPW.

Thanks,
Ian.

Hi mate,

I`m really after just the specific buckles to make the repro canvases top and straps on my MB and GPW more accurate.

If it helps, i`m after either of these buckle types- either the rounder wire type or the cast squarer type! Note in my last photo they are very diferent to the repro buckle shown in black.

If looked like there was some of each on this german canvas.

The German writing is merely the manufacturers name and textile company, they are/were a major manufacturing company for the German Army going back to before WWII. The part may be a cover for an open top carrier or 40mm gun perhaps due to size of the hole, or the hole may be where it goes around a hitch assembly covering the piece of towed equipment. Nothing came up with an NSN, but the Germans may have likely used a different numbering system. It was made in September 1960.

I think the long number ending in 60 is the contract date (3/30) and the part was made 9/60 bottom number.
Likely local procurement by supply from German manufacture for US equipment, hence the contract (long number) starting with "US"
It's sometimes much cheaper to get things made in local area than through govt. procurement back in the US for delivery.
Could have fit some radar or radio piece with an antenna hole as well.
Hard to say without lifting it up at the seams to see a shape.

The country identifier code in the NSN is not for Germany ( which would be "12"). The code 50 is for Bulgaria. The majority of their armour and artillery are Soviet based so you would likely have to research along those lines to find the application of the canvas.

I am back on the G and to telling you the truth after talking to Ron the owner of G503 we really do not know what the problem was why they had me leave the G, Ron thoughts were that I might of been hacked some how but none the less I am going to be going through all these posts and getting my count back to where it was before so that people see that it is me. But take care and if you have any question send me a message here and I would be more then happy to helping you out...
