67' Kaiser M38A1-Front/Rear hub pullers?

Somewhat new to the M38A1 (A 67' Canadian Kaiser)I am looking to clean & grease my front & rear axle bearings and adjust the brake shoes. What pullers are required for the front? and rear hubs? Please provide pictures and product numbers if possible. Can the above maintenance be done by a shade tree weekend mechanic like myself?

Also, by over greasing the front axle at the steering knuckle hole can grease migrate to the kingpin bearings while driving or do they have to be individually taken out and greased.

I have only had problems getting the rear hubs off. I needed a puller to do those. One side of the rear took a good bit of pressure from the puller to get it off. The other one came right off with the puller but would not budge by hand.

You might want to find someone that will loan you one unless you are going to pull a bunch of hubs.

As the axle turns it is supposed to pick up the grease in the knuckle and sling it around the housing. The upper kingpin bearing is always starved of grease. So they need to be packed well when put in. How can you over grease the steering knuckle? It fills up to the hole, unless you add the grease with the Jeep on a 45 degree incline.

Thanks for your input.....can the same hub puller be used for the front as well? And can both front & rear hubs be completed by a novice?

On the M38A1 the rear hubs are tapered to fit onto the axle. So what normally happens is you have to loosen the brake shoes by turning the adjustment bolts on the back of the brake backing plate to move the shoes away from the drums. Then there are two flat head slotted screws that hold the drum to the hub. Those can be rusted in place. If they screw out you can then try to get the drums off. If you have the drums off that is less resistance to pulling the hubs.

With the drums off or not you can remove the dust cover and the axle nut and try to pull the hub off of the tapered fit axle. Folks have made their own hub pullers in the past too.

The front brakes are set up just like the back but the hub is a full float type. So once you take the axle nut and hub nuts off the hub should pull off the spindle.
