Re: Tool Cabinet Variants
I can only answer your question with a suspicion. But on the bottom of mine in each corner is a triangle gusset. In each gusset is a hole about 1/2" diameter. It would appear you could take out the lower drawer(s), drill through the cargo deck and bolt down. But that's just my guess.

Re: Tool Cabinet Variants
You could be right. There is a handfull of 1" X 3" flat bars that are drilled in the middle packed up with the drawer dividers. My cabinet is NOS, got it from a G-member late last year.

Congrats, Rustman! Those look minty.
By koinkydink, I just finally got mine set up. It had been in my garage since I got it, and I just moved it with my sons into the basement shop/hideaway/Lugzsonian curator's office.

Re: Tool Cabinet Variants
I was a few minutes later than the buyer to this military cabinet at my flea market on Friday. He was paying the guy as I walked up. It's missing a drawer and the overhang on the butcher block is snapped off. Not WWII, either. FSN, DSA, and embedded "73" in contract number all point to 1973. But man oh man, it was a nice cabinet. Thirteen (13) drawers. You see the latches on the top full drawer? They swing around 180* to lock that drawer shut. The buyer didn't even know what it was. (Dammit!) I helped him load it and snapped these shots..

Re: Tool Cabinet Variants
For purposes of living history/reenacting it is necessary for my cabinets to be mobile. So I've begun fitting casters. Below is how I've done one cabinet so far. The casters are solid cast wheels from Tractor Supply rated at 300lbs each and I feel give the right "look" while only being about 6-8$ each depending on catching a sale or not. They are 3" diameter which hopefully is large enough to roll off a trailer, down a ramp and into position in the maintenance tent as long as the ground isn't too soft. The next size up was 4", rated at 700lbs and came with zerk fittings. Those are $25 each!
I didn't want to modify the cabinet in any way so I used a sheet of plywood 2x2 with the casters fixed to it via T-nuts with each caster held in one place to the cabinet proper through existing holes.

Re: Tool Cabinet Variants
One coat of OD on the plywood and casters and you're done, very neat. You even went for two fixed and two swivelling casters so I'd guess you have done this before.

Re: Tool Cabinet Variants
Thanks guys. And Gordon you are right. Four fixed castors and you won't turn. But four swivel casters (and I have a few furniture dollies like that) and the thing will track like a Bloodhound after a rabbit.

Re: Tool Cabinet Variants
This last one looks just like the forest green one above, but a little more complete (all drawers and security bars).

Re: Tool Cabinet Variants
No, but man oh man is that sweet!!!! I would jump all over that if the price is sane. It has all the hallmarks of a military cabinet, looking 50's to me (in the color and the free-swinging drawer pulls). Love the drawer sizes and layout, but I especially love that the worksurface lifts up to reveal a storage space underneath.
