MC-Marked Water Can

Post by Bob M. » Tue Apr 24, 2018 12:16 pm

Has anyone ever seen a water can marked with "MC" on the bottom? I can't find any date markings or anything else on this can (other than the "US"). Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Bob M,
If you combine the US and the MC,

It could stand for United States Medical Corps, or US Metal Container Company, or something else.

Cans made for the United States Marine Corps had periods between the letters....U.S.M.C.

I don't remember anyone posting any solid evidence regarding cans marked liked yours.

I would like to see a photo of the bottom and the top of the can please.

Nothing like this on the bottom?

Hi, Mark,

I couldn’t find any other markings on the top or bottom of the can. That said, I haven’t cleaned it, nor looked in good light. I’ll take some pics as requested, and post them by the end of the week, hopefully. Cheers!

It's a water can. Probably from the 70s. The marking will be under the handles. Sometimes very faint. You may need to sand some paint away to see them.

I just posted some more pics of the can. There sure doesn't seem to be any markings on the top or bottom.

Well... I'm not sure you will get much help now.

Here is the water can site on Dino!s page... http://ww2jerrycans.com/htm/canuswater.htm

He has US MC listed but no date...

I now have two of these crazy things since I found one years ago... Both semi gloss olive. I'm leaning towards foreign-made, c. 60s-70s, although finding them "here" (and particularly SE-AZ!) makes that improbable.

Well, if nobody here can shed any light on this can, then it must be fairly uncommon. It’s nice to know there are still mysteries out there. Thanks guys!

There are no markings under the handles? These would be fine lines, almost look like they were engraved not stamped.
