Found a 2 spare gearbox

The left is a late war and the right is a slat jeep gearbox, as the 2 plug are in the different side. The right gearbox says T84 and the left one says WOF

WOF is post war. Willys of France produced compatible components from original drawings well in to the 1960's.

A Slat Grill Head would be dated anywhere from Oct (1941) to possibly as late as Feb (1942). The casting dates are only in MM/DD format, so there are some features which will help you pinpoint a true Slat MB head. The casting number will be 639660...note, no “C” suffix. They would not have WILLYS nor JEEP embossed on the head...also known as a “smooth” MB head.

Hi
It's been awhile. Today I went to a friend place to have a look what he got for sale. There was a couple of engine there.
And I bought one for $300, it's an MB engine and someone has grind the original number and put a different number, one the bottom of the block it has 6:12 W1 I can't remember now and the head I think it was 22:12 W1 :?:
I didn't took photos but it was dark in the shed. I will pick up the engine end of next month. And will get the number.
I am pretty sure the engine is built in December 1941, as I was told the engine original came out of his December 41 slat jeep and he put an ford falcone V6 engine in it.
The engine need machining on the top block and valves rings needs machining as well as the valve rings are pity.

Peter, I encourage you to excerise a little caution. Just because a part, or this engine for that matter, came out of a Dec ‘41 MB doesn’t necessarily mean it was originally installed. For your sake, I do hope so in this case! Can you please post all the casting numbers and letters from the lower right side of the block starting from the far left reading all he way to the right? We will be able to give you a little more information. Also, could you post the machining date found on the oil pan surface of the block?

Thanks Michael.
I will get the number when I pick it up.👍
I was just saying that the engine needed machining.

Cheers Peter

I wouldn't get too hung up on what time period various parts are from. Remember, by the time MBs and GPWs were phased out of service, very few were as they came out of the factory. Date your jeep by the chassis number but I think it's much more interesting to show how interchangeable parts were.
I have an early Willys engine (MB107749) sitting in a Nov 44 GPW chassis with a Willys tub. Front axle is Willys, rear is Ford. Same with the springs.
As used or factory fresh is the dilemma.
