Front Axle before paint - April 2013
Axles with wet paint! April 2013
And this is how she sat until June 2014. As with many things, the project stalled and life happened. Since June, however, I have been back at it like a madman.

Thanks to 42cargo for the solid starting point on the trans/xfer case. Without this, I would have been much further behind. Again, thank you, John, for being so dead set on Ford only parts!!!!
How's this for a good start?
Of course, I must tear it all apart and blast and clean and go through everything

Reassembly with the old Stir-Stick!!! Those GPW T-84's don't look half bad do they?
Never hurts to mark which way is forward...... a man can forget that sometimes.....
Finally together. All parts were tested and measured to be within specified tolerances of TM's. Some folks say well, ya know it ain't an everyday driver..... I say I will be able to drive this jeep to Alaska if I want to and if I don't make it, it darn sure wasn't because of something I could have prevented. Stick and I spent many an hour on this unit. I got a hell of a deal on it too. Not only did I get my transmission/transfer rebuilt, but I got a darn good friend out of the deal too.
Hey look! An Auburn pressure plate!!

Re: MB 424970 DOD 3-12-45 Current State of Restoration
Finally got the motor in! The motor, sadly, has been on a stand rebuilt for over 3 years. I almost have the oil pump rebuilt and soon, she will run again. I'm looking to get her started up in the next few weeks. I have come to realize that despite all the planning in the world, Murphy's Law will still take affect my project. Something won't quite work right (especially with repro parts) and you'll be dead in the water for the night. I am staying the course though, as many of you have.
Soon, friends.............. soon.

Looking good Chase! I wonder what Howard meant about "I wish I had a Jeep"? As far as I know he still has his GPW?

She is looking good Chase!
Once the chassis is running then, you have to tackle the body work.

Usually three types of pressure plate styles in automotive use.
Auburn style, like we have on most of our jeeps.....http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Aub ... tedIndex=9
Long style, note the levers are under a cover...http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Lon ... tedIndex=1
Diaphram style, the diaphragm is the spring.......http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Dia ... tedIndex=6
There are also high performance and heavy duty multi disc clutches that are in use also.
Hope this helps, Ed S

Yep. The auburn style plate I have is made by Auburn.... go figure. Niblet, do you have your original presource plate? They can be rebuilt more often than not, contrary to what some may tell you.
