Huile jerry cans questions

I have what appears to be a NATO style jerry can that is marked:

Huile
12-1954

In the center of the reinforced X is "FFA"

On the other side of the can in the center of the reinfioced X is an emblem or stamping that I cannot make out.

The "air tube/vent" inside the can appears slightly smaller than what I've seen on other cans - it's oblong and less than 1/2 inch across.

I have a few questions:

Can anyone tell me about it's origins?

Under the OD green paint, there is a orange/yellow color - is this primer?

What type of paint should I use on the gas can? I'm going to use it with my CJ3A so it doesn't have to be mil-spec, but what is best to resist water as well as potential fuel spillage?

Finally, I found, and purchased an aftermarket spout manufactured by Wedco that fits the can, but it's got an "unleaded" sized opening. Where might I find a spout that has a larger opening for faster fuel filling?

Sounds like a French can. Huile is French for oil, I believe.

Sorry for my english, but i hope you understand my text !!
You have a french oil "jerrycan",and Huile is oil, certainly for engine, I think that the contenance is 20 liters and FFA is Forces Françaises en Allemagne : French Forces in Deutschland.
12 is December and 1954 the date of the manufacturer.
On the other side I think the manufacturer is stamped perhaps a german indusrie like Brosse & Co at Coburg.
The color is kaki French Army.
The yellow/orange are for identification oil : engine,gear or code NATO for ex OMD etc...
This can is rare.....In france is very difficult to find it !!!! in a very good shape.
The spout is the same like GB or German gas can.
If you send to me on my mail boxe a picture I will be very happy.

Tony,I think your can is similar to other French cans marked VIN,that is wine in french.These wine cans,in unused condition,have been fairly easy to get for a while,but now seem to be not that common any more.
