by the way, we still have to discover what's the meaning of those digits on data plates (common)...
Maurizio, what digits are you referring to?

Hi Rick!

your trailer number details have been registered.

the "digits" I was referring are "US 21", that you can find at the bottom of late plates.

RE: US 21

Maurizio, I believe the "US 21" found on some datplates is a part number from the plate manufacturer. I have no way to confirm this, but it fits.

Maurizio, my Converto was purchased from a fellow G-503 member here in Idaho. I believe it came from S Calif. Here is the registration # 0886595 9/13/1944

Thanks, Mike

hi Mike!

thank you for the details!... you'll be happy to know that your trailer is, at this time, the youngest Converto in my database! :D

by the way, the date you have on the dataplate is sep 13 1944: this is NOT a DoD...this is the contract date. unfortunately, there's no DoD on Converto's dataplates...

We now know that Converto made trailers into the 50's for the US Government. Does anyone have any ideas when they switched from the standard WW2 jeep wheel to the CJ wheels? My 44 Converto has the later CJ wheels which I thought when I saw them they had been swapped out but after getting it home I noticed that these wheels also have the reinforcing plates welded to them just as the late contract WW2 ones did and I assume the later Korean War built ones did.

The more I think about it I would guess this trailer , rebuilt in 4/45, stayed in service after the war and the wheels were replaced sometime with the wheels then being offered by Converto.
