Is it possible to mount an air cleaner directly on m151 a2 carb and avoid modifying oil bath air cleaner to accept air filter ? If someone has done this please let me know what air cleaner/ filter will work.

Re: Air cleaner
I put a regular air filter inside the metal air filter, some people use the k&n type.Look up on the internet a paper air filter for the m151

Re: Air cleaner
You can but you will probably have troubles keeping the mixtures correct. There is not enough lead in to get proper airflow over the venturi. It will work, just not as well as the smooth tube.

So you're talking about having the oil in the air cleaner?Don't remember what else goes in it.I am sure I have all the components, just that stuff mysteriously disappears sometimes. The top has a wire mesh in it?

No I was talking about Only removing hose attached to oil bath but leaving The oil bath intact. The main hose to carb is only removed to make room for Small paper air cleaner similar to what you see on motorcycles

Re: Air cleaner
If you are thinking you will get more performance you are wrong, it will go the other way. These carbs run lean by design and that type of setup will make it run even more lean and you will probably have a major flat spot at cruise speed.

You are correct, gave it a try, it ran terrible. It’s now back to original set up. But at least I know now

Re: Air cleaner
I removed all that factory oil bath stuff and went to the parts store and bought a "fresh Air" cone style that fits directly on the the carb. Cost less than 40.00 with rubber adapter kit. No problems after 20 years.
Unless your running in a very dusty area, take it off and shelve it.
