convoy light?

Post by Frank USMC » Sat May 04, 2024 3:59 am

could some one post pictures of the yellow convoy lights mounted on a M151? Where were they mounted on body? Did the pole attach to something?

I have the light mounting plat and I think I have the mounting kit to go with it. No light or pole, This mounts to the antennae mount I believe.

Way back in the good old days of surplus at one of the East Coast meets, a couple of us purchased convoy light mounts that appeared to be specific for the early M151s. The mount was a lower tube welded to a plate that had holes to correspond to the pintle hook bolts. This tube had a drilled hole and a nut welded to is so a jamb bolt could pass through and clamp the smaller diameter upper tube at the proper height. The upper tube had an octagonal plate welded to the top to mount the light to. The kit came with longer bolts as it was sandwiched between the pintle hook and the body. That setup was a match made in heaven for a two window top as it was centered neatly between the windows.

and, No Rick, that is not me looking out the window. That is our long gone bulldog Wendell who use to travel to all of the meets with us. Pic taken in 1989 after the Denver Colorado Convention. A scheduled tour of the touristy towns ended early enough that our guide, who's day job was NPS Historian, asked if any of us wanted to continue on over the mountains via the old Rollin's Pass. Several of us went along for the experience.

Cool pic. Wendell knew how to travel in style.

Used to see those convoys at Camp Lejeune in the 70's. I remember them with banners on front and rear trucks, the light is cool.
