Jeeps to France-Frank Buck Collection

Post by Jim M » Tue May 01, 2007 8:12 am

Here are a few unrestored Jeeps shipped to France by Frank Buck. Frank has been kind to share information and pictures of his Jeeps past and present. Maybe he would jump in with a comment.

Jeeps to France

Post by Ernie Baals » Tue May 01, 2007 1:06 pm

Hi All
While i understand the Euro to Dollar ratio, i still hate to see such nice original samples leave the country that they were made in.
After all, the majority of these vehicles went to Europe during the war anyway. And they have so much more than us from surplus.
Oh well money talks above all other feelings.

Ernie,

At the time Frank sold these Jeeps the Euro was not as strong as today. Frank usually offers Jeeps for sale right here or ebay. I think we had our chance and nobody wanted to buy them. This transaction was before my entry in the hobby or they would be in my motorpool.

jeeps

Hi Jim;
Weren't the jeeps on ebay this winter?
the original 45 ford hit over 27.000 but did not make reserve.

the falling dollar just makes everything the Europeans buy a heck of a deal.

Ernie I think you are right about that 45 mb. I you look at the center pic in the " original jeep forum" post that jeep has the war assetts stencil on the cowl and that little yellow outlined reflector on the bumper. Tom

Jim,Ernie, The Jeeps were sold 3 years ago and not the ones offered on E-bay last December. These jeeps went to Jeepest in France. The 45 MB was from the second owner Original paint tires seat cushions and top. Also had most of its original tools. The 44 MB was from its original owner who purchased it at Wright-Paterson AAF Base in 1947 with Original paperwork. The 42 Ford was script all there and nice but needing a restoration. All three were offered here first!. FB

Jeeps

Hi Frank;
thanks for the reply.
No disrespect aimed toward you at all, i understand wantyed to get the bet deal you can while selling a vehicle.

If i had the money, i would be investing in vehicles such as those.

It, to me anyway, seems such a shame so much of our history is being sold overseas.

We didn't seem to mind when history was being made overseas instead of here.

war

Hi Jeff
we have been lucky over here during the past century.
the oceans provided a good natural defense system, not anymore im afraid.
at least we don't have vehicles to collect from WWIII (US vs USSR) in Europe.

Will you be at Aberdeen?

Hey Ernie, I feel what you feel, manly about our free trade deal with Malroney selling out our country, I'm afraid the free trade worked one way only :(

At least we are able to buy up the old English cars that were exported after the war. I have a friend who works for a freight handling company in the port of Southampton and she can't believe the manifests that show container after container full of cars and car parts coming in from the US.

Derek.

Which is helping the US economy I might add. The folks selling these cars and parts are not burying the money in Mason jars!

Selling Overseas

Post by David H. Morganthall » Mon Jun 18, 2007 1:25 am

Maybe we should get President Bush to declare all WW2 vehicles national treasures. Then we can go to France and bring them back. (Just Kidding!) There really should be more effort made to keep the best of the Jeeps here at home; I found a matched GPW, but it does NOT look like the ones in that container! At least we know that they will be preserved for the future generations to see, even if it means a trip to France.
