Was thinking of leaving pump as is, but ended up painting it in special color similar to the cadmium plating.
Think it came out ok and will look better after a little use.

When I installed the front bumper, the frame rails in middle twisted inwards on the bottom. Had to tweak that
a bit to fit the cross member:

Test fitting of gearbox:

Early GPW bellhousing sandblasted, cracks repaired, threads cleaned up and painted:

Transfercase, gearbox and bellhousing installed. Trying to get the engine in before running out
of days off.

Starting to look like a jeep now. Next step drive shafts, brake lines etc, and then bodywork
will start.

Hinrik...I am sure you know all this but just as a reminder....

Before you go any further, now is a good time to install the GAS LINE that comes around the front of the motor to the fuel pump and also the OIL LINE that goes to the filter from behind the fuel pump as they are both five times as difficult to install with the fenders, radiator and grill installed! With that in mind, go ahead and install the OIL line from the filter to the front cover and the OIL LINE that is fitted to the block that goes to the steel line that is connected to the oil pressure gauge.

Also install the GAS PEDAL linkage that is bolted to the REAR of the block as that is almost impossible to install after the tub is put on!

P.S. It is really looking good!

Chuck, I really appreciate the feedback. I have a fuel line set but need to buy the oil line set.
The throttle linkage mounting studs where missing. Could not find any parts vendor listing them
for sale. Might just have to make them out of 1/4 inch bolts. Will sort that all out before body
and other parts get mounted. Thanks :)

Hmmm....Hey Hinrik....I believe if your motor is 51368 then it is too early for the PCV system. The Valve Cover in your pic is for the later PCV system as it does not have the tab spot welded to it to hold the Downdraft Tube at the proper angle.

Chuck, yes, you are right. I tried using this late cover with early original mounting
bolts and they don't fit. Seams there is 4 different sizes of the bolts. I have another
early cover, which I need to repair, paint and fit.

I am a bit surprised there are not many comments made on this thread. Is it in the
wrong forum? General discussion would be more appropriate?

Hello.
No did you end up in the correct forum, but I think that the guys out there like me, here goes - I am all the time already superior to where you have distended the whole original packaged stuff :)
So from me than MB drivers you get a high praise!
Keep it up.

Philip,

Thank you. I have been collecting NOS parts for this and other projects past 10-15 years. I travel much
in my work so I can visit many shows / collectors / dealers. Often had to trade rare NOS parts for
other rare NOS parts I needed :)

Hello Hinrik,

I thought you had access to that nice stockpile of NOS parts in Norway I keep hearing about!-too far away and expensive to ship back to USA.. The saddest day will be when it all dries out.. Nothing like cosmoline!

How is the project coming along?
Best,
Philip.

The biggest NOS parts pile I found was in Manila, Philippines. I work for an airline and
was based there a few months. I bought 40kg / 88 lbs of parts and shipped it free back
home. Here are some photos from that low ceiling basement "parts honey hole"
