Indeed Norm, I think it's likely they were built same day & were delivered in the same batch to Oz, there seems to be a few surviving "199xxx" GPW's here, and quite a few in the period ARN books. I'd like to know if they were delivered with the U.S serial markings, there seems to be conflicting info regarding this. Any aussie/U.S markings on yours?
Bring her along to the Laidley Jeep meet later in the year, would be good to reunite the two!
Regards
Dan

Hello Dan and Norm,
That is pretty cool having sister jeeps !!
They likely came over on the same ship, at the height of the War in The Pacific, and weren't sunk by the Japanese submarine fleet !!
Maybe you can pose the jeeps together again ?
Keep us posted, and Keep 'em Rolling !!
Best Regards,
Ray

I noticed a couple of pics of accelerator pedal. You do have the little return spring in place? Often missing in action.
It's a small piece of spring steel that fits between the pedal, around the pin & the floor.
The spring helps with fine control of the pedal on rough roads & particularly handy to get idle spot on.
Picture found in another G503 thread

Ray - will do, if it happens there will be plenty of pics!
Rebel - yes indeed, it does now, the old pedal's spring was long gone & pivot pin area was totally flogged out. I didn't want to replace it but it was a necessity for safety. Oddly enough the old pivot pin itself is a better fit in the new repro GPW pedal than the new pin was...obviously the tolerances in some of the repro stuff is a little "wanting"
Regards

We will be looking forward to the pictures of your 2 jeeps together someday !!
What a story could be told by those jeeps and their long journey to the War in the Pacific Theater !

Ray

Hi Dan,
Wonderful pictorial of your wonderful jeep.
Thanks for taking the time to document it! I`d agree with all your 'Aussie' mod comments, with most being official and some being 'whatever worked'- I`ve seen a few accelerator pedals with a nut brazed on the back!
Please think twice about restoring her. Only original once. Solve your OCD with a basket case one you can build up and have the best of both worlds!
Again, thanks for posting.
Ian.

A pleasure Ian, thanks for the kind comments. I think I've now talked myself out of the whole rebuild thing, purely only driving & fiddling. Would certainly never "smell" the same ever again (if that makes sense)Ian Fawbert wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 2:57 amHi Dan,

I`ve gone back over your images (can never have too many photos like yours to look at... jeeps are boring from anything greater than 1m away... cant see detail, so I really enjoyed all your photos!).
The mirror arm is likely original, though it is unsure granted given the non factory mounting hardware, seemingly repro swivel. The GPW went back to a squared collar locking ring some time in 44 to the end of production. I'm curious if there is any evidence of brazing on the locking ring collar? All this said, the mounting hardware also point that it is all repro but from along time ago!
On a different note, do you mind sharing what kind of screws are on the steering column dust ring and also on the headlight dimmer switch dust ring? I`m wondering if they are pan head or round head?
Thanks again and enjoy your jeep (we are!).
Ian.

Yes they were likely shipped via the same carrier and they were registered together in Australia in the same ledger #23, two pages from each other.70th Division wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 4:00 pm

Jeeps that were made together and arrived together on the other side of the world !
Do the French have any records like that ?
My ex-French MB is 349058, its sister is also French MB 349057, and is restored and located in Southern France.
That jeep was listed on the old G503 serial number data base, but that seems lost now, but the owner did send me a picture of it, so these jeeps both served in France and the French Army and likely were delivered together, not to mention came out of the Toledo factory together .
Best Regards,
Ray
