1943 Ford GPW un restored
Hi Folks, here is my unrestored 1943 Ford GPW. Found it in a barn here in Georgia and it is matching numbers. I am the third owner, Uncle Sam, guy who purchased it at government sale after war and now me. It was used on a farm then parked in barn when gentlemen got sick and passed. Its DoD is 7-29-43 from the Louisville, Ky plant. Serial number GPW 133965. It needs the floors replaced but I have purchased them and will have Mr. Russell Deese in Caro, Ga install them for me. It should run after I rebuild the carb and replace a few things in the fuel system but it had a full tank of bad gas in it when I got it. Anyone have a list of hood numbers? I can make out a few but three are beyond my eyes. I plan to leave it as found with the exception of the floor board replacements and make the brakes and electronics safe to drive. Any suggestions?

Hello,
That could be the number.
Maybe Tom W will be able to confirm in the future.
Also you have an original " machine gun " jeep, with all the holes drilled in the rear floor for the mounts, and 2 side bracing legs for the mount.
Likely a .50, but .30s were also used.
Very nice historical jeep !!
Did you get US made rear floor made by Midwest Military ?
Most vendors carry their floors.
Also get the front floor inserts made by Midwest, or JMP.
These are built to exact specs, and Midwest makes them for the GPW.
I would not put any other floor pans in the jeep other than theirs.
Also, I had a rear floor in similar, but not so rust pitted, but with a few holes as well. I taped off the wheel wells, and only blasted the floors.
Preserving the existing paint and patina. I primed and painted the floors with multi layers of primer and paint coats, to preserve the floor and repairs.
I blasted it to clean metal, welded in a few small patches, and filled all the pits with Metal to Metal metallic based filler.
I was able to restore and save the rear floor pan.
My front floor, I was also able to save by cutting the rot area out, and adding new Midwest hat channels, and patch pieces welded in from above, all with out removing the body. The welds were all ground smooth, and I added metal filler over all the repairs and any pits . It came out perfectly !!
This a repair was done on my original patina 1942 GPW, much like your jeep.
This may be able to be done by Russell.
Your transmission hump looks in good shape.
Keep us posted !!
Best Regards,
Ray

The SCR-694 had the antenna mounted on the rear left panel, but usually well left of the gas can strap and above the grab handle.

I think I solved the mystery … mine is missing the upper Jerry can mount! Anyone have an original that I could buy?
